“A comedy of horrors”
Reviewed 29 May 2012

I want to write a review of this hotel because it stuck in mind as one of the worst hotel experiences even if it happened long ago.

We found the room quite dirty, smelly, almost every detail was broken or in a poor state.
Windows and blinds were a joke, looked like they have been roughly re-painted decades before without being dismounted and then never been completely opened or closed since because they just got stuck as they were!
So we didn't get much sleep because there was a loud samba school playing music until 4 am. Luckily the music was very nice....!

The restaurant made us especially regret sitting in because we could not believe the price they were charging for that cheap greasy food and those sticky tables.

The area is lively and vibrant but we witnessed a robber trying to break into a closed shop just in front of the hotel as if no one was watching. He desisted only when he realized that we were staring at him.

The personnel at the reception was nice and tried to be helpful but could not change the bottom line: the hotel was dirty, in a very bad state and outrageously overpriced.

Oh, and of course, we had to pay extra for using wifi and the safe!

Ok rooms, except no fire alarms nor emergency exits.
Unfriendly staff (except the reception).
Unsafe area (got robbed at noon close to the hotel).

Pricey compared to what you get.

Am currently staying here for 1 night only thank god!!! Im working in Brasil at bresent and have stayed in around 15 hotels in the last 3 months, i can safely say this one is the worst of all by a long way, the room is untidy when i arrived, on a plus side its bathroom has been recently renovated and is nice, the neighbourhood is very rough outside, i visited the rastaurant this evening and was greeted by polite staff, who gave me a menu and stood staring at me from the moment i received it until i asked him to go until i could make my mind up. When i ordered i noticed the wall on my left hand side was actually very loose and the wooden frame work was hanging off, when the food arrived i took one bit and found a long black hair on the plate, i moved it and the waiter came and tried to say sorry i lifted the chicken on the plate and there was hair under it so that was enough for me, i left the restaurant and came straight here to type this. I will be ensuring i email my company to request no return visits here.

Room Tip: Dont stay in this hotel, get another

Breakfast was terrific and we found the staff helpful and accommodating. Internet was quite slow and the room was not as clean as I like. Additionally, both hotel and neighborhood are quite noisy. The hotel has a reasonably good location not too far from major sites.

I'm sure it was a great hotel a couple of years ago. It's still a save and mostly clean place to stay and the stuff is friendly but don't expect something inspiring. They serve a good breakfast and the the location is good an central.

Although not the most welcoming hotel we've ever stayed at - it seemed to be more focused on the business sector rather than the tourist market - it was clean with good facilities and the reception staff were efficient. Good breakfast.
Good location, adjacent to the Metro (Carioca), Cathedral, tram to Santa Teresa, ferries and museums, Arcos da Lapa etc. The bus from the airport also stops nearby on Av Rio Branco. There are plenty of places to eat within five minutes walk.
Only concerm would be that the area is quite quiet in the evenings so we tended to not stay out too late if we were walking back.

Stayed 1 night in a 3 bed rooom, and was very pleased. Booked 1 day ahead (online), which worked smoothly. Staff was englishspeaking and very friendly. Clean and nice rooms, and a pool on Floor 13 which was nice- the view fantastic! Neighbourhood was OK, little dodgy, but close to city centre, and airport, most importantly.
Try Lunch here- it's amazing, and a great bargain!

Room Tip: Book online- you'll pick your rooms yourself
