Stayed at Itajuba for a week after moving from a very dodgy Hotel which was almost the same price wise but in rough neighborhod. 24 Hour door men and step out right into the heart of the city's Centro District in Rio De Jeneiro's Downtown. Walking distance to Many Consulates and only two minute walk to American Embassy. Loads of restaurants all around the Hotel. Breakfast was reasonable and Brazilian Coffee was amazing. Front desk staff spoke english which was a big plus as not many people speak english which is very frustration at times. Far away from copa cabana beach though. But hotels there are at least twice as expesive.

Room Tip: Book it online and make sure to take the print out with you.

Stayed here from June 25 - June 28, 2013. I rate it 3 1/2 stars. The location was perfect for me. Less than a 1/2 block walk to the Cinelandia metro stop. Also from the airport, I took the bus that went from gig to Santo dumont airport, the domestic airport.

This bus stops at the main bus terminal, then proceeds through centro with the last stop Santo Dumont. One of the stops is in front of the Cinelandia metro stop and that is where I got off. Driver got my suitcase out from underneath the bus and walked to the hotel from there. Cost for the bus ride : r$12.00, way cheaper than a taxi.

Okay now for the hotel itself. It's an old hotel but to be fair, most of the hotels in Rio are old. Including the ones in Coppacabana. The room was on the smaller side but very clean. Someone wrote about the hard beds. I agree but I still was able to sleep okay. The rooms had aircondition units, but didn't need it too much because the weather was good.

Staff was very good, alway trying to help out. Didn't eat at the restaurant except for the included breakfast. The breakfast was okay, nothing to write home about but decent.

At least in this area where the hotel is located, there are restaurants that are still open at night. Most of restaurants in centro close after lunch, and are not open during the weekends. The restaurants around the hotel are open during the weekends.

If you need to watch tv in english, don't come to this hotel. I think there were 5 stations, all in portuguese. This wasn't a problem for me.

The best thing about this hotel for me was the location. My friend works in centro, so an easy walk to his office. I went to Niteroi one day, the boat dock an easy walk from the hotel. Plus all the old buildings around centro. Took many photos down there.

The only negatives were the wifi was pretty weak. The first day, didn't work. Second day they gave me a different password. The wifi worked but only in certain locations within the hotel.

Second, no safe deposit box in the room. The safe deposit box is located at the front desk area.

Stayed here from 15-23 June 2013 for the Rio+20 conference. This hotel was excellent! Right behind Cinelandia station, and surrounded by little shops where you can buy empanadas and frozen acai with granola! It's also walking distance from Lapa, where the higher-end dining establishments and lively street parties are.

The rooms are old but restful, and very clean. Their breakfast selection is good as well, the normal selection of hot food (scrambled egg, bacon) and a cold cuts plate, salad, yogurt, bread, and these delicious pudding-like desserts. The menu doesn't change daily, but I didn't get tired of the food anyway. They also do room service, which is rare for a small hotel.

It's also really easy to get down to Copacabana or Ipanema, just hop on the train in Cinelandia. The only downside is that I had to take the train up to the end station in order to find a small grocery store. There aren't any groceries in the city proper, with most of them being down south in the tourist/residential areas.

There seems to be only one staff member who speaks English, but he's always around and he's very helpful. And most importantly, their rates are very reasonable. All in all, an excellent experience which made me feel at home in Rio.

My experience there was good, itajuba is an old but clean hotel, its principal value is the location one block away from cinelandia station. I think tha price value relation is good. Breakfast is perfect and if you don't have problem for the old furnitures and ambient it is a good option for bed and breakfast.
