“Centrally located when on budget”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 January 2014

This hotel is located behind the Copacabana Palace, which means two things:
1. the location is not bad if you want to move around Rio, while getting to know the main tourist attractions. 2. you pay premium for this traditionally central location.

The standard rooms are tiny, so you have to go with the upgraded rooms to get slightly more space. This obviously has an impact on the price you pay.

Having said so, however, the Windsor chain is very good and the rooms are upgraded on a regular basis, so if you definitely need to be in Copacabana on a budget, this is the place to be. If that is not the case, you are better off staying south on a different location, or at a different Windsor.

For instance, if budget is not a problem try Windsor Atlantica, which is also in Copacabana.
If you don't have to be so centrally located, try for example Windsor Martinique.

Room Tip: Do not choose standard rooms, they are tiny.

Me and my friend stayed for 10 nights. from the moment we got there we recieved a warm welcome and shown to our twin room which had a balcony. went on many excursions booked by the hotel which were all great. On my birthday they hooked us up with tickets to the brazil cup final (local team flamengo vs athletic PR) at the maracana stadium. although a little pricey it was well worth it. round the corner for most restaurants, supermarkets and weekend market. also copacabana beach is pretty much your back garden. would like to thank thiago the breakfast man and rodrigo one of the hotel staff who is always smiling. would definitely recommend. also club six in lapa one of the best club nights ive had - the brazilian people are wonderful however brush up on portugese as aside from the hotel it is a struggle to communicate in english to most of the locals. I will visit rio again and definitely consider staying in room 1201!

Room Tip: Room 1201, Balcony - wonderful view on clear night. Can see christ the redeemer and sugarloaf mntn f...

Very nice. Well located. I’d be happy to stay again (although the Copa neighborhood is a little shabby as, I assume, the hotties of yesteryear age in place). I think the staff deserves a 5-star rating.
There is a Metro station pretty close and the beach is even closer.
Room has a safe, small refrigerator and flat screen TV. Loads of cable channels including English CNN and Bloomberg
I was in Room 1003 -- good wifi . The rooms looks out onto the city street.
Breakfast features scrambled egg soup, lightly cooked bacon and several other hot items; cold items are meats, cheeses and lots of fresh fruit. Plus extremely strong coffee.
Despite it’s past-its-prime feeling, the neighborhood felt safe to me. There are lots of little shops and restaurants. There is a huge grocery store south of the hotel about 4 blocks.

We stayed at the Rio Windsor, on our first trip to Rio de Janeiro in Nov 2013, and chose the hotel because of the location, and the good ratings on TripAdvisor.
The location of the hotel is definitely good with it just being short walk away from the Copacabana beach and just behind the famous Copacobana palace. The choice of restaurants nearby also contribute to the good location.
However, the rooms and the hotel itself were quite average and a bit of a letdown.
The rooms are small and not so comfortable. Even the bedsheets were not clean on our arrival, though were replaced by fresh ones on the next day.

Would recommend this if you're not planning to spend too much time in the hotel room and wish to explore Rio as much as you can. It is also very close to the beach.
However, don't expect a luxurious hotel.

Dear Guest.

We would like to thank you for choosing the Windsor Copa on your recent trip to Rio, and also for taking your time to help us through your comments. I'm glad that you have enjoyed our location and services. Unfortunately one of our rooms were not up to your expectations (the rooms have different sizes and the size depends on the category reserved).
We appreciate your comments and we hope to welcome you back in Rio soon.

We wish you a great New Year’s eve and a 2014 full of peace and happiness!

The hotel is very good. It's 1 block back from the beach, breakfast is excellent and when we needed to stay an extra night, staff were very helpful - they were fully booked, but made a note and suggested we try back in the morning when they could see if there had been any cancellations. The rooms are small, but this is a city where space is at a premium and it wasn't an issue, we were comfortable. Wifi speed and connectivity is excellent. We had a room at the back of the hotel on the 12th floor which was very quiet even though it was next to the gym.

In terms of locations within Rio, we shortlisted Ipanema and Copacabana based on safety whilst also not wanting to break the bank! We visited Ipanema several times and actually preferred it there - nicer beach and it felt safer to stroll around in the evening for restaurants and bars - they're all clustered together, whereas in Copacabana they're more spread out and we passed more people sleeping/passed out in doorways. Whilst we loved the hotel, we wished we'd known and gone for Ipanema as a location instead.
