“Great Location and Great Staff”
Reviewed 21 April 2014

We stayed here during carnival 2014 - the hostel is in a great location, safe area and only 5-10mins walk from Christ the Redeemer. Bus stop and taxi rank nearby. Had a really friendly welcome, the staff are all very helpful and have great knowledge on where to go/what to see. We stayed in a double private room, the room was very basic, but clean the shared bathrooms were also clean. Would recommend anyone to stay whether travelling alone or with friends.

Stayed at Samba Palace Hostel for my first night and couldn't ask for a better Welcoming Staff. Very friendly (Eddy and the two girls) and knowledgeable. Decided to stay a few more days, Eddy showed me around and invited my friend and I to some great entertainment events! Clean, cheap and good breakfast (included) and public transport nearby.
Thank you for everything =)

Room Tip: Dorms are clean and comfortable; juste be sure to bring a lock to secure your personal belongings

We stayed here in April 2013 for 7 nights.

This is the place to stay if you want a good location, good comfortable surroundings, knowledgeable staff and a taste of true Brazilian hospitality! We were a little concerned before we arrived at the location but it is perfect - there are shops just around the corners, plenty of bars and restaurants and most crucially, it felt/was safe! There are good bus services to pretty much everywhere you want/need to go and although they're confusing at first, the staff will be able to help you! It's also walking distance to the Christo Redentor railway.

The beds were some of the comfiest we stayed in SA and the rooms were air-conditioned. The breakfast is more than enough to start your day and the showers were good and clean.

The staff are the friendliest we met - giving us free umbrellas, helping us get our bearings on the maps and generally being friendly and feeling more like friends than employees.

We did have an issue one night where we got in and somebody was in our beds. This wasn't a problem for the hostel and they instantly upgraded us to a private room for a couple of nights - they would do anything to make sure your stay was as comfortable as possible.

Also, we booked the Rocinha Favela tour through the hostel. It was an acceptable price and the tour is a must do in our opinion!

Thank you Samba Palace (and especially Marcos - who we are still in contact with!) for a great time. We WILL be back!!

We stayed in both a private room and 4 bed dorm for a total of 8 nights. The private room had secure fingerprint entry, tv and a very comfortable queen size bed. The 4 bed dorm had large lockers and comfortable bunk beds. The staff were very knowledgable about directions, attractions, parties and if there was anything they didn't know, they would find out and get back to you! The included all-you-can eat breakfast consists of toasted ham and cheese sandwiches, fresh fruits and juice, tea, coffee and cakes (one of our favourites for this trip). Food in Brazil is quite expensive relative to the rest of South America however, the hostel serves a delicious dinner for R13 that rivals any food we ate in restaurants. The hostel is clean, the toilets and bathrooms are modern, it's not noisy after 11/12 at night and there's a massive media room. It is not located on the beach but walking distance to Christ the Redeemer (major tourist attraction) and the bus stop is 20m from the door to take you directly to any beach, shopping centre or the city centre. Also the metro is only a 10min walk which takes you to the main Futebol stadium in Rio. We highly recommend this hostel and would definitely stay here again. Renee and Kylie

First off Samba palace is in a great location - walking distance to Christ the redeamer and in a great neighbourhood where you feel safe. There is tons of grocery stores and restaurants nearby as well as the metro being within walking distance. The staff is phenominal - Bianca and Rafael are tons of fun to chat with and make sure everything is in order for you and Eddy makes the best Caipirinha in Brazil - no joke, I tried ALOT and I mean ALOT, and always with a smile on his face. The breakfast is delicious and fresh and the common rooms are a great place to relax and meet people with A/C running all the time to keep you cool (the fact the bedrooms have A/C is also wonderful as Rio is crazy hot). The last day I was in town they threw a BBQ to which they invited all the guest staying there. Try to find a better place than that in Rio!
