I and my wife stayed here for 5 nights and right before the Carnival. The surrounding hotels in Copacabana had very high roomrates however Ibis Copacabana continued its low pricing policy even during the Carnival period and never gave up quality although fully booked.
We stayed at 4th floor, our room 404 was at the corner facing the backward building. We had to keep the curtains closed all the times for privacy but it was very silent. The room was small (Ibis standard) but we had all what we need, a safe, a small refrigerator, a well functioning air-con, and a very comfortable bed. The room was cleaned and the used toiletries were replaced every day.
The hotel is only 3 years old and is very clean and tidy. The breakfast area is nicely decorated, the food supplied is of good quality with various choices and of course tasty coffee. Most of the staff at the reception were speaking English, we checked in after midnight and they quickly completed our registration, they guided us to various local attractions and also helped booking a one day city tour. There is also a technical service team in the hotel; when we had a problem with our safe, the staff arrived in our room in only 1 minute and repaired.
The location of the hotel is great, it is two blocks away from the beach. There are various shops and cafes in the vicinity, and there is also a taxi stand right in front of the hotel gate.

Spent 2 nights here. Excellent for the price we paid. Clean, safe accommodation - safe in room, air con, clean room, basic toiletries. Helpful staff.

There was no tea/coffee making facilities in my room and the breakfast (according to my colleagues) wasn't great, but I knew that, for the price I paid, there would be some compromises. I had a view of a wall 2m away from my room but considering I was paying 1/3rd the price of my friends in another hotel around the corner and felt totally safe in this one (24/7 concierge support etc) you'd be daft to think this wasn't good value. I skipped the breakfast here and popped to the local shop 50m down the road and ordered an espresso/fruit pot for 1/2 the price of the Ibis breakfast.

The plus in Rio appear to be different to Sao Paulo so I had to ask the hotel staff for an adapter for my adapter. No probs at all.

I would stay here again.

Room Tip: As long as you don't mind not having a view from your room this is a good value for money hotel.

My husband and I stayed here for three nights in January 2014.

We found the staff to be very helpful and friendly when checking in and at all other times when passing reception or going to breakfast too. Indeed, breakfast was more than adequate and included all the usual plus good strong coffee with hot milk if required.

Our room was at the front of the hotel on a higher floor and we did not experience any outside noise at all. We had previously requested a very quiet room and were happy with their choice. There was a standard sized in-room safe and empty fridge along with a flat screen tv (with BBC World News) and efficient air conditioning. The bathroom had a good sized walk-in shower with plenty of hot water whenever we needed it. A soap and shampoo/conditioner were provided along with lovely soft white towels and a hairdryer too. The double bed was very clean and comfortable and reception told us to let them know if we needed anything else as room service was not provided for extras. We slept well and woke feeling refreshed and ready to explore Rio.

I would certainly recommend this hotel for a few nights stay as it is in a very convenient position just two blocks from the famous Copacabana beach, (less than five minutes walk) is very close to public transport which is easy and cheap to use and the area also feels safe to walk around in whether during the day or at night. If staying for longer than a few days then a room with more clothes storage may be useful as hanging space is limited although there are a few shelves provided. We basically lived out of our suitcases as we were touring. However, we found it to be perfect for our needs and the staff could not be faulted. If we had any questions they were very happy to help and make suggestions and their spoken English was excellent. When we needed airport boarding passes printing this was not a problem and was done without extra cost.

After asking at reception about a taxi to the airport they went outside the front of the hotel with us to the taxi rank and asked the drivers what the price would be and how long we should allow for the journey and then arranged a collection time for us and the price agreed was very competitive. On our journey from the airport on arrival in Rio de Janeiro, we queued for a short time outside the front of the airport and used a yellow taxi waiting at the ranks and paid a lower price than was quoted inside the airport for pre-paid taxis and we felt quite safe and had a very fast and friendly driver.

Do not hesitate to try the national drink of Caipirinha when staying at the hotel as we found it to be the best example around and very reasonably priced too. The bartender was also very keen to please and went out of his way to make us the perfect drink. All in all, we were very impressed with everything there and will make sure to stay next time we visit Rio.

Room Tip: Would recommend a quiet room at the front on a high floor.

The rooms are very standard Ibis fayer with everything you would expect and good air conditioning. The staff cannot be more helpful with good local knowledge etc.

Good location, close to the beach and metro and also the vans that go directly to Corcovado.

Enjoy Rio!

Let's get this out of the way -- Ritz Carlton (or Copacabana Palace), it ain't! BUT, if you are looking for a reasonable, very clean, new and comfortable hotel in Rio, this is the place! The best part -- location...within two blocks from the most active, cleanest and safest part of Copacabana beach!!!

The staff is very helpful, polite and accommodating.

My wife and I stayed here while waiting to board our cruise ship and found the facilities modern, clean and convenient to Copacabana Beach. This was our first experience with the Ibis chain and will look for them in travels to come. Staff were helpful and very courteous. We particularly enjoyed its proximity to the beach as well as the street market a short block or so away. While we found the breakfast quite good I suspect in the future we would elect to find something else in the neighbourhood.
