“Two tours: first was excellent - second was unacceptable”
Reviewed 16 November 2013

First Tour in RIO was great. Specially because Kathia our guide made it very very good.
But I suggest you to ask/read exactly what you book by them because it is not a reliable company and I suggest you not to pay in advance your tours, otherwise they will not care about you anymore if they already have your money.
Second Tour (was only a simple transfer for 1 couple to Angra) and started in the morning with MORE THAN ONE HOUR PICK UP DELAY from our hotel without any apologise for that. Once picked up we contacted by phone the manager Mr. Diego asking for an explanation and we only got a very poor and simple excuse: big traffic jam. Besides of that, we made this transfer to Rio in a big bus for more than 30 people from another company who were going to do a daytrip to Ilha Grande.

RIO MAXIMO as a reliable company? I would not recommend other travellers unless you have the chance to visit the city with Kathia and make sure not to pay in advance.

“WARNING - total rip-off!!”

Mike Mo

I took a Favela Tour with RMT today and I am still shocked (being a seasoned traveller). To begin with, this tour is more expensive than with any other agency, so you would probably expect a better service. I was picked up about half an hour late, and as I was the first participant to be picked up, we almost lost an hour in the beginning. By the time we got to the Favela, the sun had already almost gone down. Our guide (whose English was very poor) left us in a place where we were obviously expected to spend some money and it took him about 10-15 minutes to park his car. After this, we went to a viewpoint where we had to pay admission, as if 100 Reales weren´t already enough (according to their website, it´s all included). After this, we went back the same way (probably less than 300 metres) to the car and the tour was over! We barely spent an hour in the favela, but as the tour was advertised as 3,5 hours, I refused to pay the full amount. To my surprise, the driver completely freaked out, locked the doors and I suddenly found myself a kind of hostage, driving at high speed to his "boss". I was howver able to unlock the door and jump off the car at some traffic lights, although the guide tried to wrestle with me and ripped my shirt. I think this company should lose its licence... TOTAL RIP-OFF, NEVER AGAIN!
By the way... I don´t think you have to book a favela tour at all. Get to know some locals, they´re super kind and welcoming, and experience the "real" thing!

Dear MIKE ,

We were completely terrified about your review.

First of all because if everything happened as you described you should call us and take our crew to the tourist police! That’s exactly what we recommend to each person to clarify the situation. You had mention that you have been “hostage” and that’s a serious crime! From all your history what the Rio Maximo did not understand is that why you did not call us or look after your rights??

As far as we know - and we have others people from your tour that can confirm what really happens – appears you did have enough money to pay regular, safety and one of kind Favelas Tour, and just walk away (kinda scape) and throw R$ 60,00 in orther the real price R$ 90,00.

Again, If something like it was related in your mail really happens with ours tourist we will be the first to lead right way to the police station! Unfortunately, you just post a terrible review on the web appearing to damage our agency!

“If you would like to discover Rio the easy way”
Reviewed 25 July 2013

I booked a tour with Rio Maximo as I stumbled upon them via the internet. I initially signed up for a 1 day tour across Rio, but as I accidentilly boarded the wrong tourbus in the morning, I ended up taking the 4 hr tour. In the end i was quite happy to do this 4 hour tour instead of the 8 hr tour as in 4 hours you can visit all the major tourist hotspots of the city. The only place we didn;t visit was Sugarloaf mountain, but the views on Corcovado mountain really made up for this. The only drawback I experienced was the "mandatory" visit of a tourist shop in Copacabana which was a total waste of time

I must admit that their customer service is very good. As i boarded the wrong the tourbus, the company was really helpful in getting me on an alternative tour instead. Also they are very responsive to emails and they speak good English, which is quite useful if you don't speak Portuguese

“Complete City Tour with Rio Mazimo”
Reviewed 24 March 2013

My husband and just returned from an amazing trip in Brazil! Our first stop was in Rio de Janerio. We were only here a few days, and are already planning to go back. There is so much to take in. One of the tours that did take alot in as our time was limited, was the COMPTETE CITY TOUR WITH RIO MAZIMO. The were prompt, and our guide Martin was amazing! The offer a good varity of tours. Something for everyone. There website is www.riomaximo.tur.br. We had researched a lot of other tours and found them to be one of the best priced for what was offered. NO worries on this tour at all.....Our soccer match got cancelled so we booked another tour with them called Angra + Big Island. If you love the beauty of the mountains, beaches and ocean, this was also an amazing day. A long day, but well worth it. We feel in love with Brazil in Rio de Janerio. <3
