We did this tour on our recent trip to Rio. It's our first free walking tour but we were encouraged to do it by our kids who have done many of these.
It wasn't included in our original plan and we thought it could be a good way for a quick orientation to the city and the centro area.
We were glad that we did it as it was an easy way to see some attractions that we wanted to see and also showed us the Confeiteria Colombo which we did not know about and would highly recommend as a great place to swing by in the centro area
I do realize that this is a 'free' tour ( we tipped the guide generously)but we were unfortunately unimpressed with the guide. It is the guide who makes or breaks the tour. It was not easy to understand him and he was trying to talk above the very loud traffic noises. It would have been far better had he used a mike as so many other guides have used.
All I recall from the trip is that there seems to have been a lot of bankruptcy in Rio's history. I can't vouch if this is true or not as I don't know the history. i found the information that I could understand to be quite superficial. For me this was more of a visual walking tour than an informative one. At least I got to see areas I wouldn't have gone to had I not done the tour. It's a good way to orientate oneself to the city centre. The flexibility of not having to per book can also be convenient when ones plans change at the last moment.
