I absolutely loved our stay at that place, the atmosphere was really unique. The house is really big with lots and lots of common area where you can do everything and definitely get to know the people. Decorations and location were great. Even the 3-story bunk beds were great!

Breakfast was very good, there is wifi, big flat tv with netflix and even play station.

But you should be open minded and tolerant to fully enjoy your stay :)

Room Tip: Ask for the room with big balcony!

The best choise to stay in Rio! The house is very well decorated (lovely bohemian style) and has a great location. The staff is also very nice, always helping out and hard working to keep everything going. But, without doubt, the thing that makes Mambembe one of the best hostels in Rio, is it´s atmosphere.
All this together makes an unforgettable experience and sooo difficult to leave... :-)

The Mamembe Hostel is the best Hostel I've ever been. The staff members are very friendly speak several languages and make you feel like in a home of many very good friends. All rooms have a nice view down to lapa.
The Hostel is a perfekt for people who are open minded, tolerant. I loved to cook and make barbecue at the hostel as well as the parties we celebrated there.
The location in Santa Theresa (the most beautiful neighboorhood in Rio) 5 min away from Lapa isvery nice. Only to the beach you have to take the bus but thats always like that in case you don't always want to stay at the same beach (there are many and very different beaches in Rio!)
On top of all, the prices are really low.
Although I'm not staying in the hostel anymore I'm sometimes there to visit the friends and to party with them.
Thanks Mamembe
Chears, Ruben

Set up by notorious backpackers and furnished with an eclectic mix of antiques, salvaged furniture from architectural sites and modern classics, this hostel redefines what traveling is all about. Do not forget that it are the places you stay in that ultimately determine your next destination while traveling.

What to expect? A beautifully renovated old house with a vibrant atmosphere, a lively, open living room that feels like home and a beautiful terrace overlooking Sante Teresa. There are clean and quiet dorms along with some private rooms for couples.

Don't forget to ask Oli -the bearded Swiss owner- for some tips and tricks about traveling in South America. With nearly 10 years of experience he knows a thing or two.

Enjoy.

Im the type of person that gets kicked out of hostels a lot, i came to mambembe by fluke but i had a great time here and didnt care about much, it was full of hippies, musicians and artists and i didnt feel to comfortable at first, i later realized that the hostel had only just opened a few months before and the people here were leftovers from the beginning, it quickly grew and grew into a smoothly run partyplace where people have fun and mingled, everyone is happy, eats together, goes out together and has fun together, only downsite is the 2 minute walk up a slightly steep hill, but coming back in the hostel you know why you walked up the hill, its a great place to stay, meet people, get wasted AND do whatever u like ;) best thing is( or worst thing) the bar hasnt even opened yet, i can only imagine what its gonna be like once its open, i stayed here for more than 6 weeks

One of the best hostels I have stayed in anywhere. The staff make you feel welcome and are very accommodating, most staff speak more than one language. Beds are large and comfortable, dorms are large, accommodating 9 beds (triple bunks), balconies for every room. The hostel is cleaned every day and is neat in appearance. The included breakfast is diverse and includes savoury, sweet, fruit and meat. It is definitely the best value for money hostel. Located in downtown, close to transport, restaurants and nightlife, the hostel is relatively quiet.
