We had 4 nights here leading up to the fifa final, the room was fine but the lift noise was shocking every movement of the lift rang through the room (1801) the air con was the only thing that drowned out the noise of the lift as that sounded like a child's bike with a lolly stick hitting the spokes. Breakfast was fine the staff were good except the lovely Flavia who needs a refresher in customer services and told smiling is not a crime. the hotel is handy for the under ground is only 100 yards away with lots of cafes a McDonalds and hsbc bank nearby.

Room Tip: Do not have a room on any floor that is --01 as they are next to the lift shaft.

I stayed here during the World Cup final weekend. The hotel is a very decent 3 star hotel. The location isn't great for tourism as it's a good 30 min away from the beaches. However it's a good hotel for a quick city trip as rooms are very clean and the staff is very friendly. Near the hotel there are a few pubs and a couple of dancing bars which could give an authentic feel to your trip.

Reason I have a 3 star is due to the location and average breakfast. Sk if these things are appealing to you then this is not an hotel for you.

I was in Rio de Janeiro during the quarterfinals of the World Cup (Germany vs. France) and needless to say the occupancy rate was very high and many hotels were gouging guests with inflated prices. I found a very good deal (about $175 a night) for Windsor Asturias and thought it was either a bait-and-switch or just a lousy hotel. Neither was true.

I arrived late at night and the downtown central neighborhood was filled with cafes and restaurants, as well as street vendors selling hot dogs, etc. The hotel lobby was very clean and surprisingly, not that busy. Front desk staff were all friendly and spoke some Spanish and English, since I didn't speak Portuguese.

I was checked into a room on the 12th floor that had soundproof windows, strong a/c and a comfortable bed. The room was clean and the bathroom had strong hot water for the shower. The only complaint I had is that my toilet clogged, so when I returned to the room at night, the room had been cleaned but the maid didn't bother to get someone to fix the toilet.

Breakfast was a nice buffet that had both hot and cold selections, juices and coffee. Free wifi internet was strong and reliable. There was a small pool and café on the top floor terrace with very nice views of the city. I didn't use the pool but it looked clean and well maintained.

From a location perspective, it's just 2 blocks from the subway, making it very easy to get to Ipanema and Copacabana beaches as well as Maracana stadium.

Considering what a busy time it was for the hotel (they were the host hotel for Sony at the World Cup), they did an excellent job in keeping everything running smoothly.

Room Tip: 1207 was a quiet room on a high floor.

We rented a room through another service and reserved for three. When we got there they told us your reservation only said two yet there was three beds in the room. Then they charged us an additional 250$ for two nights. The bathroom smelled like mold. The staff are clueless and not accommodating. If you are going here for World Cup don't stay here. Guest are not allowed to come to your room. Every other hotel we have been to here has been super friendly and much more accommodating. We have been traveling with other people and had no problem meeting up with them in our hotel rooms.

Dear guest,

Thank you for sharing your comments about your recent stay at the Windsor Asturias Hotel and sincere apologies for not having met your expectations. All criticisms are taken constructively they are a valuable way to help us get our best services.

We would like to inform you that your booking was made through the match company responsible for marketing all rooms for the World Cup.

Only single and double rooms have been sold, the third persons would have to be paid directly at the hotel. The reception contacted the Match Company who confirmed the booking for two people.

The hotel staff did their best to resolve the situation, however it was confirmed that the third person must be paid at the hotel.

For safety reasons do not allow access to rooms of people who are not guests.

Thanks again for your comments and hope to welcome you in the next future.

Did not really know what to expect from this hotel as although we have travelled widely this was the first to South America.
The first impression was not good as it took the taxi driver to raise the hotel staff from their discussion to assisting us with the luggage. The room reminded me of a Spanish three star hotel of the 1980s. The bed and bed linen were reasonable although as is often the case the bottom sheet was too small for the bed. There was a fitted wardrobe with safe and a couple of drawers also a mini-bar. There was a desk fitting and too hard chairs.
The bathroom sizeable with a good shower but the towels were dreadful-really thin and not atall absorbent-very old-fashioned leaning type and as a reminder to anyone thinking of visiting no face cloths are provided.
I found the breakfast adequate but the locals seems to enjoy it. The dining room is really too small for breakfast when the hotel is busy and there was a long queue on one morning. By way of comparison the hotel was a long way short of for instance, a 2 1/2 star Hampton Inn in the US, but I have no means of comparing it with other city centre hotels in Rio. Having said all that the hotel is as has been stated convenient to the Metro and there are a number of restaurants very close. The property was clean and the reception staff spoke good English although that was not necessarily the case in the restaurants staff.

We stayed in Windsor Asturias over the New Year's Eve. Service and room were perfectly good. We really enjoyed the buffet breakfast. There was a beautiful view at night from the roof top terrace. Despite being small the roof top pool offered a good refreshment option. Also caipirinhas at the roof terrace were great.
At the reception everyone spoke good English and was very eager to answer all our questions. Keep in mind that speaking English in Brazil is not a common thing!
Wifi was available in the room and worked OK for Brazilian standards.
Windsor Asturias is located just a by a metro station (Cinelandia), which makes it particularly easy to move around rio. However, this metro stop is not open on Sundays and holidays (in this case Carioca station serves as a good alternative).
If you want to experience all of rio, and particularly Santa Teresa and Lapa districts (there are some really great parties going on there), I'd definitely recommend Windsor Asturias. However, if you prefer to spend most of the time on the beach, choose one of the hotels in Copacabana, Ipanema or Leblon.

We stayed at this hotel for a night on our way back from Paraty and onwards to Buenos and didn't want to go back to Copacabana Palace (which was our favourite hotel in the trip!)

The hotel is located in Central Rio, walking distance to Lapa (Rio Scenarium etc.) but quite far from the beaches and the international airport.

The staff is quite friendly and helpful.

The rooms are mediocre at best. The furniture is tired. The television isn't a flat screen. The only positive was that the room had a view of Christo Redento, which I suspect isn't such a great thing, since it's so high up anyway. The breakfast is forgettable.

Room Tip: Definitely visit the roof of this hotel. Possibly the nicest thing about it.
