We have skied grand Targhee Christmas week for years. It was the perfect place for a young family. We would bring bags of groceries up and found the room in Sioux lodge perfect for our purposes. But very year the lodge has become more rustic and less comfortable.

One year the fireplaces, balconies kitchens and enough seating for everyone in the rom disappeared "for our convenience". Of particular irritation is the one person coffee pot with paper cups for a room sleeping 8. With no kitchen we go nightly to the Steakhouse which is great, but also the only place we can go without a kitchen and traveling with a minor. One of my children is 17 so we can't go to the bar.

The mountain is the same and there are NO lines at all. Everyone is local and no wonder. While the management puzzles over why the crowds have disappeared, they also argue with you when you say how uncomfortable you are. I am over 50 and not happy about the lumpy bed or the coffee maker. We are 5 and need a table in our room for 5. We have one chair for tv watching. I travel a lot and know that the rest of the world's hotels are more comfy. So if you are under 30, have the wealth to take a ski vacation and can sleep on the floor this is your place.

Room service got to use some of the time and did a great job but skipped us one time in 3.

This is sadly our last year here. Our now 20 something kids want more to do at night and I need more comfort while on vacation.

As part of the Cheyenne Ski Club we booked a 3 day stay at Grand Targhee on 1/12/13 through the marketing department. We all stayed at the Souix Lodge which is just behind the base lodge of the ski area with adjacent access to a heated outdoor pool and spa facility. Great place to stay if your seeking first tracks on the high speed dream catcher lift in the morning. Overall very comfortable stay... the condo rooms we stayed in were two levels with a large living room and fold down murphy bed on the main floor that was large enough to accommodate our wine and cheese party for the group just fine. The rooms were quiet, comfortable and clean and the maid service was great. Our club liked Targhee as it is easy to find each other with most ski traffic going back to the main lift. Enjoyed great breakfast and lunch items at Snorkels at the base. Coffee is just $1 if enjoyed from a mug. The chili at lunch was terrific as were the cookies and pastries. The food and apre ski is great at the famous Trap Bar at the base. Pricing is reasonable...but ambiance is way cool. Skiing of course was great as it always is at Targhee...with more natural snow then anyone else on December 12th...which is why we came. They do a good job grooming on a number of main trails to keep most folks very happy doing laps carving. The really good stuff is all off piste and much it is very skiable by moderate to strong intermediate skiers with some chutes and cliffs to entertain the experts. Much better tree skiing then Steamboat as the spacing is better. Since there are no crowds and the place has two high speed lifts I get in more vertical of skiing at Targhee then I do at Copper, Vail and most other areas. Most days over 40,000 vertical feet... and on Pow days who needs heli-skiing...you've got the Ghee! The marketing department was very flexible in working with our group on short notice... which was appreciated and will bring us back. You can define Targhee as being one of the most friendly places to ski. From top management who we dealt with thanks Ken and Will to the patroller we met and invited to attended our wine and cheese party and held court to the delight of the group and the happy lift attendents.. everyone is very happy and very glad you are there. Ever read Lost Horizon.... you may come and never leave.

Room Tip: If you are bringing a larger group or a large family you may want to upgrade and book into the Sioux...

Our Ski Club stayed here December 12-15, 2013. Grand Targhee was great to work with, giving the club discounted lift tickets and great rates at the Sioux Lodge. The staff was always very friendly and the accomodations were wonderful...a true ski in, ski out! The Trap Bar, the hot tub, pool are all within walking distance. Once you get to Targhee and park your car, you don't have to get back in it until it is time to go home! The snow was great, lifts weren't crowded. Fun was had by all. We can't wait until next year!!!

I stayed here with my girlfriend early December. The room was excellent, clean, spacious, and warm thankfully as outside dropped to 20 below. Skiing was to the door. Although only served by 3 lifts, i thought the choice in runs as good if not better than any European resort I've been too. And no lift queues! Vertical from each lift was 600m or so. Fast quad means you get a lot of downhill for your buck. Tree density between runs perfect for mellow lines. Especially enjoyed the Aspen lower down the slopes. Double black diamond runs were a bit limited when i was there. There is one severe cliff from above the far right lift which has a number of marked routes - needs good coverage to make it skiable. In any case Jackson Hole is a day trip for the adventurous. Facilities on site were perhaps a little limited, but the restaurant was good, bar lively though not open late. Hot tub nice. Had a free guided naturalist snowshoe walk which was really enjoyable. In general the staff were extremely friendly. And the price was an absolute bargain as we did the stay and ski free deal.

We had a free upgrade to the Teewinot Lodge. Judging by other comments may be worth paying more for this lodge if you visit in the high season.

If you want to ski, this place is for you. Walk in, put your stuff on the floor or a convenient hook and hit the slopes. Don't worry about lockers, lift lines or valet parking, you're here to ski.

This place routinely gets the most snow out west and the nice thing is its not all skied off by noon. You can get 1-2 ft on Monday and still be skiing powder on Wednesday. The lifts may not be the fastest or numerous but rarely do you have to wait in a line. If you don't like lifts, try the back country cat trips. Intermediate in difficulty but fresh tracks all day long. Lift tickets are cheap compared to most resorts, $50-60. The cat is quite a bit more expensive, $350-400. After a long day of skiing, the Trap Bar offers great music, beer and excellent nachos.

Enjoyed the hiking and the spectacular views from the top of the Dream Catcher lift (it runs during the summer too!). The Teewinot Lodge was very clean and comfy. I would stay there again! We ate at Wild Bill's Grill, The Branding Iron & Grill and Trap Bar & Grill. The food was excellent! Shopped on the last day and found great souvenirs. All the staff was very friendly and helpful. Grand Targhee is truly a hidden gem! I'm definitely coming back to ski next winter!

I stayed at Targhee for about 5 days in September. Plenty of good hiking and other outdoorsy things to do (the views are a must-see!).

To others' comments, yes it is hard to get to, only ATT cell phones work, an there is little to no night life, but go into your experience at Targhee with the knowledge that this place is a hidden gem, not a tourist Mecca.

I found the food to be very satisfying, the staff polite and very helpful, and the ammenities like the heated saltwater pool and sauna were very nice.

All in all, I had a very pleasant experience. I'm makin it a point to come back to Targhee during ski season as I've heard great things about the powder there.
