“Great location/activites soured by service”
Reviewed 20 July 2014

We stayed at the Teewinot Lodge for one night in July for Targhee Fest. The property, facilities and room all aligned with expectations - great view, nice rustic feel, plenty of options for things to do other than the concert. The check in process was vague to say the least, no welcome just a "sign here and card for incidentals" and a point in the direction of the room, which unless you've been here before the property is quite large and can be deceiving. Room was well appointed and comfortable, great beds. what really soured the whole experience was the Branding Iron for Lunch. The hostess Ana at first refused to seat us because she thought they were closed despite having 3 other covers seated outside. It was 11am and we arrived for Lunch, no reason to not seat someone especially when there are other parties eating Lunch. We then had Mike the server - all in all, just not the best fit for F&B. Seemingly unaware of his surroundings, no drink menu, no refills and no reason to have a 30 minute ticket time for a 2 top, although the food was good. The location and the activities brought me to your resort but its your staff that will make me question my return.

Room Tip: Go for even numbered rooms in Teewinot, they face away from the property and overlook the mountains...

We were passing through Driggs on our way back to Montana from Yellowstone and the Tetons and were staying at a hotel in Driggs. We got there early in the day and decided to look around for something to do. We saw signs for the Grand Targhee Resort in town and decided to drive up there. What a cool place--there were lots of activities going on during the summer. We took the ski lift to the top and took pictures. The area overlooks a valley and the back of the Grand Tetons. Had we arrived earlier in the day, we could have taken one of the hiking trails. As it was, we had about 45 min. to look around and take pictures, then, take the ski lift back down. (My knees just couldn't handle the 3 mile trail down the ski slopes.) Bikers were able to take their bikes to the top using the chair lift and bike down on the course constructed specifically for bikes. There were a couple of shops and a restaurant. There was also a euro bungy/trampoline attraction. They have a schedule of events for the summer--concerts and bike competitions. The summer rates for staying at the resort seemed reasonable, but we didn't check out the accomdations.

I stayed at the hotel on a Sunday evening. Our room was about 100 degrees when we walked into it. I looked and it had no air. I turn on the little fan they had in the room, but it was no help. We also arrived atound 6pm and everything was closed. I know that summer is their off season, but if you are not going to have your resort all open why even stay open. It looks like it would be fun in the winter but not much fun in summer!

Room Tip: Don't stay if it is over 70 degrees

Listen to the other reviews that say that this hotel is way out of the way. We knew that going in but figured that there would be enough to do on our last day of vacation that we could stick around the resort and enjoy it and relax before going home. Unfortunately, they don't serve breakfast except for on Saturday and Sunday and there really isn't a lot to do in the summer. They do have horseback riding, hiking, and a ski lift, but with the exception of hiking everything costs extra. The pool is heated and very nice as is the very large hot tub. It looks like a nice place to ski during the winter, but for the summer seems to be kind of dead. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We stayed at the Targhee Lodge and it included two Queen sized beds and a bathroom with a shower only.

Stayed here for 2 nights in March. Room was fine, plenty of room for storing all your gear and nice and quiet.

Only a couple of places to eat up at Targhee - either the main restaurant which is great but a bit pricey or the bar which is good and has a great selection of beers in.

Where this place comes into it's own is when it dumps as you are right there first in line without having to struggle up the access road.

Only downside was taking an hour to dig our car out after getting dumped on for 3 days!

Love the mountain and the amount of snow they get. Love the scenery. We did not stay at the resort (stayed off campus), so I cannot comment on the accommodations. The staff in the activity center were all friendly.

Grand Targhee is definitely a sweet spot to ski. Great terrain and no lines. It is fair to say that Targhee Lodge is far from luxurious. It is literally a motel-style lodge at the base of the hill that was probably built 30 years and not much has changed since then. Having said that, we knew this was the situation in advance and had no issues with it. You are there to ski, not have a scandavian spa experience. The staff was very friendly and everything you need is a 2min walk.

Room Tip: Teewinot lodge is supposed to be renovated.
