My husband and I stayed at the Sioux Lodge on the first and last days of our five day Yellowstone/Grand Teton/Jackson vacation. We got an excellent price through the AAA travel site which included our studio suite with woodburning fireplace, breakfast, and dinner. Just about the only people there were from a group of elderhostel travelers, so it was really quiet.

The desk clerks were helpful and friendly. There would have been a problem if they had been out of firewood, because we really only paid the extra over their motel-style units to get the fireplace, and the desk clerk told us they did not replenish the firewood during the summer/fall months. Fortunately, there was enough for us. There was only one restaurant available, but the food was tasty and nicely served. The grounds were spectacular, though it was a bit disappointing none of the shops were open. The pool and hot tub were clean, a welcoming temperature, and empty except for us!

We appreciated free use of the guest computer with Internet access and printer to print our Southwest boarding passes the morning of our departure.

I've read the comments others have written about the carpeting, but from my experience real ski resorts with real fireplaces and real skis and boots clumping around take a bit of a beating-it isn't a metro Hilton.

Excellent value! This side of the Tetons is much less crowded than the Jackson Hole side. This resort was very clean, had especially happy staff, great food and beautiful rooms. We will be back.

We arrived at the Grand Targhee Ski Resort, near Alta,Wyoming last week.
The outside of the buildings were well kept and most beautiful scenery you could imagine. Upon entering the lodge, we noticed the dirty carpet , chipped paint and odor. We entered our room and was met with dust in the corners, very tacky furniture , decor and again a distinct odor. The hallway had a bloody tissue and candy wrappers strewn about. This lodge had not been cleaned for a very long time. We immediately called the front desk and exclaimed our displeasure. The clerk was unsympathetic but did offer us to view another room. That room was not any better. We then contacted the travel agency that we had booked the resort with and they called the lodge. After a rather lengthy conversation the resort agreed upon letting us use one of their private condo's for the evening. We drove back the six miles down the mountain to the condo's. We were very pleased with the accomodations there but did have to waste an hour and half discussing our displeasure and options with the desk staff.
We do not recommend the resort due to it's filthy conditions.

We stayed in the Sioux Lodge from July 31st to August 6th 2003. For the most part, our stay was nice. The employees were friendly and helpful. The Sioux Lodge is charming. However, it was in need of a few things. It seemed that the outside stairs and hallways were not vacuumed or cleaned. Indoor/outdoor carpet should be vacuumed. It seemed neglected at the end of the hallway where we were staying. Our ice and pop machines were out of order and the room that housed them was a total mess. I would have been afraid to enter if the machines were working. We had no light by our door and found it difficult to get the door open at night. Housekeeping failed to check our shower gel and coffee creamer. We could not open one of our windows because a screen was broken. One day we came back to the room and found that our wood for our fireplace was gone. The view from our room could have been better if someone would have bothered to pick up garbage in the back. Not that it was really bad back there, just a few things that needed to be picked up. There is only one small mirror located in the bathroom. The lighting in that bathroom was very poor. It was very difficult for two people, to get ready for the day. All I would have needed was a mirror with a light and outlet outside of the bathroom, there was no place to put on make-up or fix your hair. To plug in a curling iron in the bathroom, you would risk electrocution. You would have to set your make-up on the toilet seat and then it would fall off and break. Just to have a little vanity area would improve the conditions of the room. I feel that all these things are really minor and could be fixed very easily. Hopefully they will read this and fix them. The people working in the retail shops were very friendly, as were the people in The Trap bar and grill. The pool area was nice. The rest of the grounds looked kept up and clean. They were remodeling and what they had done looked very nice.
