“Comfortable and clean”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 October 2013

Staying in Comfort Inn for World Master Athletics. Really comfortable (pardon the pun) but not luxurious. Good value for what your paying. Clean room. Good extra length comfortable bed. Nice hot shower, good enough bathroom. Fridge, but no kettle or hair dryer. Breakfast was really good. Fast selection, even hot food and devine coffee. Hotel was full and no surprice, I can recommend. Friendly staff and reception.

Looking for some a stay in Porto Alegre ? That's an good option, affordable, clean, tidy, international breakfast nearby city center, city tour line "Linha turismo", good bars and nightlife at Lima e silva street. To mention an item to improve I should suggest more attention in reservation dept. once we've warned by email 1 week before that we'd should come before the midday and main desk when we arrived had no information about it.

The last time was my third in this hotel, and so far the best. I also came to appreciate it more after a subsequent stay in another city in a big "business hotel" which although more expensive was actually worse than Comfort.
What I most appreciated was the layout of the room, and the comfortable long desk alongside the entire one wall of the room, electrical outlets everywhere within easy reach, and the fridge. In my view, any room that has me crawling under desks, moving beds, and unplugging lamps to make sure that 2 or three of my electronic gizmos are charging, is below standard. My room in Comfort had 2 outlets just above the desk, and two more free ones at either side of the bed. So I could have the clock radio AND my iPhone plugged in! As on most of my stays I spend a lot of time on my computer, the comfort of the chair and desk was much appreciated. The fridge kept my supply of water bottles, so I could work in the evenings getting ready for the next day without frustration. On one occasion I had room service dinner - food was mediocre, but service very nice and helpful. The check-in /out desk could use more staff, and more staff who speak English. This time my check-out was slow, and even though several staff were milling around, it was still handled just by one person. My previous time a year ago, I had a serious misunderstanding with a check-in clerk who did not speak any English, and it didn't help that I arrived late, and could not muster any Portuguese. However, this time it was more or less OK. On my last morning, the light went out in the bathroom, but as it had a window, and I was in a hurry, I did not complain. Being so central, it is a noisy place. The air conditioning unit is very noisy too - but big improvement on the one they had three years ago. Come prepared - bring ear plugs. I did this time, and slept very well.
Also, I do not agree with another traveller who said that there were no restaurants around, the truth is quite the opposite! If you cross the big street, Loureiro da Silva, and turn left, there are plenty of restaurants and little shops in the neighbourhood. I found a supermarket within easy walking distance, where you can buy snacks, water, even small (or regular size!) bottles of excellent Brazilian wine.
The internet is free, and wireless. Breakfast was fine - seemed pretty standard.

This must be the 11th time that I stay at this hotel and I must say it will be the last.

Last time I've been there, there was no water caused by some maintenance in the street. Ok, I can understand that the situation it´s not caused by they, but the problem is that the staff was always telling the guests that the water was about to come back in 15 or 20 minutes. This was clearly not the case, as the water only returned at the end of the next day.

Now (I'm actually at the hotel, writing this review) it has been 2 days without hot water. The staff at the front desk was telling me to open the register and wait for about 10 minutes, can you believe it? Of course, that didn't worked at all and I was forced to take a cold shower early in the morning. I must say... this isn't the most pleasent thing to do during the winter in the south of Brazil, where the temperatures usually goes to 10o.Celsius.

  • Disliked — the several water problems... (read review)

3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 June 2007

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for the annual Porto Alegre's Marathon in May 2007. Our choice was based on it´s location near the starting point of the Marathon. It´s a vertical building with nothing special, the location is poor and there are no restaurants or attractions around. But the room was quite comfortable and spacious, and there was a nice breakfast. The service was great and the staff very friendly and helpful. Overall, it was a nice stay and good value for the money.
