It's a really special place.
It was a train station built in the 20s for the São Paulo coffee stock market but after the transportation switch into cars and trucks this wonderful building became the Julio Prestes Cultural Center in 1999. The magnificent Sala São Paulo is the home of the São Paulo State Symphonic Orchestra (OSESP) and it has a capacity of almost 1500 seats.
I've been there this morning in order to attend the free morning concert at 11 a.m.. Amazing!
The theatre is wonderful and the acoustics simply great. So it was a fantastic experience I'll probably repeat in the next weeks.
Inside the center is possible to find also a little coffee bar and a store to buy books, cd's, dvd's and some souvenirs.
- for the free events usually it's better to book before the tickets online but thanks to the big capacity of the sala it's ok to go there just 15 minutes before and get them directly;
- the place is in a quite dangerous area so maybe it could be better to get a taxi from the Luz metro station (around 1km far).
