This property used to be called Hotel Saint Germain - it was one of a group of flats that were given names of French saints. It is now a Mercure hotel.

The location is hard to beat if you need to be close to Avenida Paulista, the heart of São Paulo business life during the week and the hub of weekend activity during the weekend. You will find lots of restaurants, the city's largest bookstore, movie theaters and a supermarket within one block. This is why I have stayed in the hotel many times.

The renovation improved a number of things, such as the elevators. The rooms are now in the Mercure standard. The flats, which had a small kitchen and a separate bedroom, morphed into a modern room that consists basically of a desk and a bed surrounded by a lot of empty space and two (!) balconies. Very nice, but I must confess I really missed the convenience of the flat - even the microwave was gone.

Nothing wrong there - the hotel made an option, and the rooms look great and the setting is very pleasing to the eye. However, the renovation missed a key point - and this requires a trip back in time so you understand.

Remember I mentioned the hotels with French saint names? They had a lot in common, and seemed to be variations of a single design. And they all had one problem: water from the shower drained very slowly, so even after a short time the water would overflow into the bathroom floor.

Well, while the renovation replaced mirrors, shower head, and lights, it probably did not change the piping underneath. As a consequence, the Alamedas will provide you with a new experience: a Mercure-level room with a wet bathroom floor.

The hotel is okay, nothing special, but is clean and in an apparent good area. I was in a apartment style room and a couple of issues. The room has a fridge, small kitchen and microwave etc. However, no kettle or any kitchen utensils or accessories at all, which ind of defeats the purpose. I had to microwave my water to make a cup of tea and coffee. No kitchen towels to dry up, or sponges to wipe down the benches etc. I asked housekeeping for more coffee etc and it was like I was trying to get her to donate a kidney......and still didn't get any more....!! The bedroom was small but all that was needed. There was no window in half of the opening, so noise was quite load from the street below. There was only a shutter. Staff at the front desk were helpful and spoke good English which was appreciated. Also assistance with getting to the Formula One race was very helpful. The hotel itself was clean and satisfactory. Would I stay there again?.........maybe, but would look around for other options before hand.

Just off of Ave Paulista, the São Paulo business Main Street, it's the perfect place to locate to reach most meetings (and major tourist attractions) within a few minutes by foot or Metro. Traffic in São Paulo, like major global cities, is no joke, and this hotel will help eliminate the stress of moving around to help focus on business. Hotel itself is clean and service staff are very helpful. Best features for me are the hypoallergenic floor, especially it's obvious the cleaning staff don't do a thorough job on a daily basis, and the pool/ fitness room at the rooftop. Drawback is the breakfast which is expensive for the selection. But that's ok as the hotel is so near many restaurants and shops.

There is a helipad right next to this hotel!!! MANY HELICOPTERS fly every morning by the hotel windows beginning at 6AM every day including Saturdays and Sundays!!!! You wake up early with the windows trembling and your heart shaking with the helicopters vibration! Also, one of Sao Paulo NOISIEST STREETS, Av. Paulista, is on the corner of the hotel, which will keep you up until 2AM every night! Conclusion: IMPOSSIBLE TO SLEEP AT THIS HOTEL.

Also, horrible cleaning service. Cleaners leave hair in the bathroom and crumbs on the coach for over a week!!!!! I talked to the cleaner and she got pissed off.

Horrible restaurant: expensive and bad quality food. Room service takes for ever!

Dear Guest,

First of let apologize for the negative experience you had at Mercure Alamedas. Our goal is to meet guest expectations every time.

The problem with the helicopters is correct, in São Paulo we gave the second largest number of flights/day in the world and the Paulista Ave is one of the areas that happens to have a lot of helipads.

The problem with the housekeeing will certainly be revised. A communication problem could have occured while trying to speak to the staff. In thar case the reception would be able to help.

Once again, I´m very sorry fot the negative experience.

Sincerely,

Fernando Petit

Having stayed recently at #1 Trip Advisor rated São Paulo Hotel Porto Bay we decided to save some money on our return to the city. The Mercure Alamedas is ok. Location to be fair is good and I guess you get what you pay for. Place attracts a crowd because it is relatively inexpensive. Wifi is free which is good, gym is really small and needs an update. Staff are ok. Everything about the hotel says ok. If you are on a budget, this place will do. But I was neither impressed with the #1 ranked Porto Bay nor this Mercure so I will look again on my next São Paulo visit
