4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 April 2013

Nice apartment, best relation cost/benefit.
Close to several Hospitals and also from the vibrant commerce of Paulista Avenue.
My companion and me appreciate very much our stay and surely we are going to repeat when coming back to São Paulo.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in September 2012. We rented 2 rooms.

One of them was at the back of the building, and it was the best one: much, MUCH quieter than the rooms that overlook the busy Rua Vergueiro, the furniture was new. My parents stayed in that room.

Our room was on the 7th floor, front side. The (only) good side of that room was the very nice view of Avenida Paulista. The room itself was really not very nice, albeit spacious. An old-style cathodic screen TV, very noisy air conditioning, dingy furniture and floor, bathroom tiles and shower were worn out (but clean). The bed was acceptable, but not great.

The worst is the noise. The windows are not soundproof at all, which means you feel like you are sleeping with your windows open to the neverending traffic of Rua vergueiro. This means noise all night long. Thank goodness I packed some ear plugs!

The 2 good points of this hotel were the staff, very professional and helpful, and the location, central and close to the subway. But even this would not hide the fact that this hotel is in dire need of a makeover. Really not worth its price and certainly not what is expected from a Mercure.

Room Tip: When you book, ask for the rooms in the back of the building, they are the quieter ones.

Near the subway station (Paraiso), only 2-3 minutes walk, the hotel is very convenient for those who need to use the subway or go to Avenida Paulista. Vergueiro St in from of the hotel is busy and noisy and the neighborhood seems to be low middle class area, quite decadent, with poor shops and groceries. Staff is helpful. There is a swimming pool on the roof and a pitfull gym, which was my greatest disappointment, since I had to stay long in town. The rooms are wide, clean, there is also a kitchenette which is handful! Breakfast is standard, much better than American continental breakfast but not so exciting. Actually, the restaurant is average to poor, but you can try some restaurants at Shopping Patio Paulista, 10-min walk.

Room Tip: Choose a room facing the back street to avoid Vergueiro St.

Although not along the Avenida Paulista, the hotel is within walking distance to this, it took like 10 minutes to get there. The area is safe, which is important for a big city with a lot of crimes like Sao Paulo. The metro station is one minute away, I took the shuttle from Guarulhos Airport to Avenida Paulista and took taxi (once) and metro to get to and from the hotel. A lot of eating places nearby. The apartment is quite big, with bedroom and guestroom separated. They have free tee and coffee but no kettle to cook so it was useless for me. The reception was good, breakfast was fine, traditional Brazilian style with scramble eggs and sausages as the only warm meals. But the coffee was excellent, as anywhere in Brazil. Outside the breakfast area is the smoking place. I liked the hotel.

This is the main reason I chose this hotel: Location. It's just next to Paraiso metro station, where you can take either the line 1 or line 2 metro, which is very convenient.

It's also 1o minutes walking from Shopping Paulista and the Paulista Avenue.

This is a below average Mercure. Unless you need to be around its accessibility is difficult. It does not have 24 hour room service and restaurant is very below a Mercure average. Surroundings are odd and wouldn't recommend walking alone late at night. Rooms are quite big but noisy with old AC units attached to the wall.

Room Tip: Ask for a room not facing the main street Vergueiro.

We booked this hotel last minute and were happily surprised. The hotel was a 3 minute walk to the metro station, plenty of restaurants and a grocery store near by. There were a few local shops very close and a mall (Paulista) about ten minutes walk away. The room looked a little dated but not bad, it was suite with a separate living room and a kitchenette, which had a microwave, sink, and refrigerator. The front desk were most helpful. The gym was pitiful with one broke down treadmill and a small weight area. There was a small pool. The hotel did not do money exchange, but citibank and hsbc were not far.
