The only thing 5 star there is the name and it's a very bad joke. Superb location but very poor otherwise. Stayed there a few times and some rooms have such small beds a 6' tall man barely fits in. Carpets were dirty in high passage area and in one trip in particular it was bad enough that I didn't want to walk barefoot.
The hotel seems to fancy a particular smell of men aftershave. They installed some automatic sprays in every room that shoot a puff of smell every 15 minutes...but it really smells like old men, old barbershop aftershave. And since those are in the room I had to call service to ask them to turn it off.
This is yet another Brasilian hotel that has done well for 1, 2 or 3 decades but is now in dire need of complete overhaul. Now it's just old and the value for the money is just not good, save for location.
I would not go back there personally unless this was the only option available and I would go out of despair. The Golden Tulip hotel, merely a few dozen meters away, is FAR, FAR better in every single aspect and it's a shame the Massis has seemingly become the old smelly uncle mentality when the Golden Tulip took a modern turn and really leaped WAYYYY beyond the Massis.More
