3 hours by car from Rio. The last 3 km's very bad road. The last 250 m: no road at all: the hotel personnel carries your luggage through the beach sand and up a steep hill. But what you than discover is worth it all the way! Like a dream location. Nice and friendly and very personal service; maybe not fully "professional" but so kind that small or misunderstandings are not to be taken as a problem by the customer. Unless by some French customers who are used to French international hotel chains. Agree: we got an upgrade to the honeymoon suite. Not all rooms are like that one. We took the full board including all activities: we do not have any negative comment: everything went smoothly and food was very good without being the best we have eaten during our stay in Brazil.

It is a colonial style building on the slope overlooking the fisherman's beach. It has 10 rooms with a lot of personalized attention to the guest. Meals were good with an interesting choice of international wines ( I would have liked to have a selection of Brazilian wines to try). Unfortunately it rained during the 4 days I was there but I had a very restful stay and I swam in the pool anyway.

You can trek ir do boat trips around the place. There is also a deserted beach nearby. The hotel overlooks the bay and view is beautiful.

To reach the hotel, you need to leave your car in the village and cross a bit of the beach and then walk up the hill. While not difficult to reach it is advisable to pack light even if the hotel provides help with your luggage.

It's a real treat to stay at this Pousada. The staff are exceptionally attentive. They even mailed my partner's sunglasses to us when they found them after we left (without us asking). The setting is stunning, the food is fabulous, and everything is thought of to make your stay fun and relaxing.

Loved the hotel. Great location which felt remote enough but was also near the local village where simple meals for lunch plus cheap beers could be bought. Our room was on the small side and the air-conditioning needed resetting to be cool enough. Small balcony with views of the pool. Great swimming pool and deck with lovely views across the bay. Dinner was on the simple side with limited choice but always expertly cooked from local ingredients. Surprisingly the only wine on sale in the restaurant maws French as the hotel is French owned. Somewhat goes against the hotels green credentials when the are great local or at least South American wines with significantly less airmiles. Breakfast was ok but had to be eaten quickly to avoid the insects. Our only real problem is that we were both bitten by insects, probably mosquitos and after 3 days we were pleased to be moving on to get away from them. Apart from that a great place for a few days of relaxation.

Dear Chris,

Thanks for your message.

It was a pleasure to welcome you at Picinguaba and we are extremely happy to hear about your great time.

In the meals we offer we give priority to local products to surprise our guests and to show the best of the Brazilian regional cuisine.
The food we offer at Picinguaba is growth organically at Fazenda Catuçaba our sister project.

Thanks for your comment about the air-co, we already coordinated a technical visit.

Normally our wine list has different options, including some Argentinian and Chilean organic wines we will take extra care to avoid this kind of situations again.

Once again thanks for you visit.

We stayed for 3 night in Feb 2016 - the food was great, imagine fishing during the day and them serving it for lunch! Amazing dinners, friendly staff - not a place to go if you need to be entertained with activities. The staff couldn't have been more helpful - with only about 20 people staying there at a time - really makes for a unique experience.
