I was here on a teambuilding event and I left the hotel with mixed feelings.
My first impression was very good - nice looking hotel, good location. We also had lunch and even if it was not the best restaurant ever to find in a hotel, the food was decent.
After that we decided to try the spa and games. First negative impression was that all had to be paid separately (no "wet area" or "games area" pass) except for the indoor pool, which was free.
We still wanted to play eight-ball so decided to go for it. It turned out that (1) the table's mechanism didn't work and we had to wait for a person from the lobby bar to come each new game to "reset" the table and (2) the walls were so close that it was almost impossible to make a normal shot from the right side and part of the left side of the table.
Later when we went to the restaurant at dinner time it tuner out that the hotel has booked 2 team building events and thus we were so many that it was very difficult to get in or out, there was no place to dance and it was as loud as a public kitchen. The good thing was that the food was better than at lunch time.
After dinner we went to the disco bar which was a nice addition to the hotel with access directly from the lobby. It was all fine until they allowed smoking which (1) is against the law as it is not outside and (2) reminded us of how one smells of cigarettes after going to a club… a long forgotten memory until that night.
Back in the room things didn’t get much better… we realized there was no perfect solution as to size and comfort. The furniture was cheap build-it-yourself kind of style. My room had a 17” CRT TV and no minibar. A colleague on the other hand had a big fridge but a 14” CRT TV. The signal quality was also below average. The shower cabin was leaking, the towels were crying for change and one of the walls was in need of a big makeover.
Overall it wasn’t all bad, but for a 4 star hotel there is much more to wish for.
