“Great for families not so good for couples”
Reviewed 2 August 2014

I am here write now. Came with Thomas Cook. Went looking for the rep today but he wasn't present at the time he posted on the info board that he would be in the adjacent hotel. The hotel is spotlessly clean and run efficiently. It would be great for families but if you want peace and quiet you won't get it. There is music blaring out by the pools all day and often music two ends of the pool at the same time. The animation team remind me of a 1970s holiday camp. The appear at the pool with an irritating dance a number of times each day. The evening entertainment is not my cup of tea at all. I would much prefer a band and some dancing.
The food is good with lots of variety but the big let down is that it is luke warm. I am very concerned that this could cause an outbreak of stomach upsets on a large scale. Thomas Cook advice their holiday makers to only eat food if it is piping hot. It most definitely isn't.

My wife and my daughter spent 10 days at the Sol Nessebar Mare between July 11 and July 21.
I'll detail my thoughts :

Reception - All the staff we dealt with spoke fluent English and we had no language issues what so ever. Staff was friendly at all times.

Room - We booked a Garden view room, but to our surprise we were upgraded to Sea view at the reception. A bit thank you to the reception staff. This point alone made my daughter so happy ( she's almost 4 years old and enjoyed the view from the balcony ) .
Room was pretty spacious and we had space for all of our luggages ( and we had a lot ! )
Cleaning was done daily while we were out of the room. Bathroom was also cleaned daily.
Television had multiple channels including channels in English, Bulgarian, Romanian and a few others.
AC was working very well and cooled the room.
Wifi - Active and good speed at all times. Need a password from reception to activate.

Swimming pools and bars area - Swimming pools were clean and not too crowded ( except the kids swimming pool next to the water slides which got crowded sometimes ). Bars' staff speaks English and the bars are clean and pleasant to stay at.
During one of the days it was heavily raining so we went to the bigger indoor swimming pool at the Palace. The water there seamed to be pretty cold so we didn't stay for long.

Beach - The beach can be reached from the Sol Nessebar Mare area. There are steps you need to take to reach the beach. Note that the beach is a public beach and some times it wasn't that clean. Algae was present at all times and wasn't picked up at all. Some of it got rotten and the smell wasn't very pleasant. The hotel should really take this with the city hall or whoever is responsible with the beach.
A paid bar can be found on the beach.

Park - The resort has a very nice big park with facilities for kids. The view from the park towards the sea can be superb. I'm not sure who the area with the trees and weeds between the park and beach belongs too, but if that area can be cleaned the resort can build an amazing promenade with stunning views !

Restaurant - The food was pretty diversified and you can find Chicken, pork, beef and fish on a daily basis. Some days there was Rabbit and Calamri as well. The Pizza is good and is served at noon and dinner. Plenty of choices during all meals. You need to be extremely picky not to find something to eat. The desserts were very good !
Two things i didn't understand :
1.Why cut the Bananas into two and let them oxidize ?
2.Too much onion in the chicken soup ( at all times )

Surroundings - It's clear that the surroundings of the resort are still under development. Some of the sidewalks are broken or missing.
You can find a small mini-market right outside the resort. There are also two pharmacies nearby, one at about 100m to the left of Sol Nessebar Mare, and the other one to the right of Sol Nessebar Bay at about 350m.
The old town of Nessebar is only 1,5km away and was very nice to visit !

Action/Entertainment team - A big applause for the team. I don't know when these people have time to sleep. I could see them outside at 07am and still awake at almost midnight. They did everything they could to make EVERYONE enjoy the stay. The shows are great and we really enjoyed the Michael Jackson tribute night. The Comedy night was also a big success.
If you are with kids, don't worry, there are plenty of activities for them as well with the highlight on the kids disco at 20:30. If the team could add some more songs and activities in English ( for the kids ) it would be perfect.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay and plan on coming back again next year. Thanks for an enjoyable vacation !

Hotel was very clean and staff were all very helpful. Being a fussy eater I wasn't too impressed with the food as I felt it could have been hotter or cooked for a few minutes longer, that said we did not go hungry as there was plenty of choice. The animation team work exceptionally hard and seem to really enjoy what they do. If there was one thing to call out was that on the last couple of days of our holiday we couldn't get a sun bed beside our pool but we could use the facilities at the Palace Hotel however if you wanted a drink you needed to walk back to the pool bar at Mare hotel, minor issue and can see in full season why this would be the case. Overall we had a great holiday and would certainly go back to this hotel.

Room Tip: We were in room 315 which over looked the Palace pool which got the sun in the afternoon and evening...

We were visiting Bulgaria and this hotel for the first time and were amazed by everything including service, cleanliness, staff friendliness, food and amusement programme. We have a five-year-old daughter and she was delighted to take part in activities proposed by extremely friendly animation team. Kids disco and dancing in the pool were the activities that she could not miss any single day. We even bought their CD:) The fact that animators are always 'attacked' by children wherever they go tells a lot in favour of them. The staff in the restaurant, pool, lobby and entertainment bars was also warm and welcoming although they work very long hours every day. Nothing wrong could be said about the room cleanlinesss. The chambermaids work really hard to clean the rooms despite the fact that customers sometimes leave the floor or the table full packed with their belongings. We had a room with a sea view and it paid its cost. The food was varied and even a choosy person could find something for himself/herself. What concerns queues, it's a matter of one's intelligence whether to stand in a queue or to avoid it like many Russians do. On the other hand, everyone has the chance to eat even if he/she comes at 9.55 a.m. for breakfast although the breakfast time finishes at 10.00 a.m. I saw myself pancakes being cooked 9.50 a.m.:)) The pools and the beach were OK. The sunbeds near the pools were comfortable and the sides of the pool not slippery at all. The technical staff worked really carefully because one day I noticed one bar seperating kids' pool from the big pool loosened an the next morning it was fixed. What is the most important, the weather was fine all the time. Besides, we could visit Nessebar, which also made us a huge impression. We enjoyed interesting evening programmes from the circus and comedy show to live concert and traditional Bulgarian dances. My husband had the opportunity to play the drum and dance with Bulgarian guys from the folk band:)) Besides, the hotel offers a rich sports programme. Everywhere we were met with a smile and I could make a conclusion that all Bulgarians are very warm people. All in all, it's the hotel which I could choose again and we are already thinking about holidays in Sol Nessebar Mare next year:) Thanks to all the hotel team for everything and good luck to you:) Jovita andf the family, Lithuania

Room Tip: We were really happy to have a sea view room.

This was a clean hotel, with lovely staff and a welcoming atmosphere. Food was good and there was lots of variety so something for everyone. There was a problem with a slippery dining room floor which made it difficult, due to faulty aircon, I think. But this was probably the only real issue. I went with family a few years ago, in the height of summer and it was very hot (about 40 degrees in the shade). Having visited again recently from a different resort, it was interesting to see how the area had developed. Great shopping and places of interest, nice restaurants on the beach, lots to do for all the family. A lovely place to be.

Wanting to tackle our two grandchildren away during half term, we were obliged to pay premium prices for the privilege and for what is classed as a four star hotel! I would question that this is any more than a three star, based solely on the quality of the food. The hotel itself is fine, clean and tidy, though a little 'rustic' in certain areas. The food however is a different story altogether, having stayed at several all inclusive hotels and never having had reason to complain about the food, not expecting gourmet standards and accepting that it can be a little repetative, I can honestly say I've never been as disappointed as in this hotel. The food was bland, strange and I would say recycled on a daily basis, with certain things making appearances disguised as something else on a regular basis. The hotel staff are very mixed, some very pleasant but some very surly, bordering on rude. Another first for me was , having accidentally broken a glass tumbler from the bathroom, I asked reception if they could organise someone to come and clear the broken glass up, and the most important thing to the receptionist wasn't the safety aspect of clearing the glass away as soon as possible, but making sure she charged me for the breakage! Never ever have I even considered having to pay for a broken tumbler , had it been something significant then ok, but a tumbler !!!. Which brings me on to another bone of contention, the maids idea of cleaning appears to omit the washing or changing of tumblers in the bathroom, ours weren't touched once throughout our weeks stay. The pool is lovely, and there are plenty of sun beds with parasols though again you have to pay a 20 lev deposit for each pool towel which I think is a bit excessive. The air conditioning is quite temperamental too. Apart from these few bad points we had a very enjoyable week with glorious weather. I would hesitate to return purely because of the food !,
All in all very disappointingr sorry!

Dear HantsTraveller22,

Thank you for your visit, as well as for your feedback.
It is very good you find our hotel “fine, clean and tidy”. We are sorry though we could not satisfy your expectations regarding the food. It is quite a difficult task to satisfy the taste of guests coming from all over the world, and it is a pity the efforts of our kitchen staff went in vane in your case… The chef settles a two week menu, covering and even exceeding all standards regarding the variety. Still, as we all know, in May we have not all products on the market as it is in June, July, August, September… In other words, we would be very pleased, if you would visit us again, for another “very enjoyable week with glorious weather” in high season, when all the range of fruits and vegetables, born from our fruitful Bulgarian ground are on our tables.

Wishing you all the best,

Janina Ninova,
