The structure is impressive, simple but beautiful considering the bridge is over 100 years old. The honesty of the construction and structure reveals the beauty. The best time to admire the bridge when the sun sets and rising.

Make sure to stay in the U Bein Bridge during sunset. It's such a romantic place that feels like a beautiful dream. Every minute of the sunset the scene changes. You can complete the beauty from the beginning of the sunset till the end, so don't miss the entire process.

Take a boat to float on the waters (only about eight dollars for an hour), to enjoy the sight of water and the bridge. The bridge is a narrow wooden age old installation but it used all and one to cross the water. The sight of sunset, sitting in th boat, across the bridge with a pagoda in the background is visual delight.

It is interesting to see that this bridge connects more than 2 sides of land. It also connects people of many nations who come to visit this beautiful work of art. The misty mornings & the sunset in the evenings are the main attraction. Other than that, one could wait in the hut half way down the bridge & witness the anecdotes involving the local folk. Some of these incidents are howlers. Having lived in Myanmar for 2.5 years I always outwitted the local touts. I also had assistance from a senior Buddhist monk / lecturer at the Amarapura Monastery which is next to the bridge. This bridge was not made only to connect the 2 parts of land but also to help the Novice Buddhist monks studying at the Amarapura monastery to meditate indulging in the walking meditation (Sakman Bhawanawa) .It is stated that the Monastery houses over 1,000 Novice Buddhist monk undergraduates at a time. It is advisable to speak to the Monks at the monastery to obtain more information reference the bridge to understand & enjoy the walk down it as the history of these two go hand in hand. I love to walk down this at 05.30 am in the mist & eat breakfast from the kiosk below . Don't get turned off by the pungent smell of pickled bamboo shoots which is a delicacy in Myanmar. The smell of Durian is far better. Also take every possible photograph to remember this bridge.

This is just a wooden bridge to cross the river. While there are some very good image of it during sunrise/sunset but once you see the real attraction it was quite a disappointment. There are guides that can fill you in about the story and history but I think there is nothing much to tell. When I visited it was after a big drench and the entrance was all muddy!
