“Stunning location for a relaxing or romantic getaway”
Reviewed 20 July 2014

I spent 3 nights at Golden Island Cottages 2 and thoroughly enjoyed it. The hotel is located about 7 miles across the lake from the town of Nyaung Shwe.Tourists arrive by boat at the lakeside entrance but it is possible to cycle to the town via the back landside enterance. My room was fantastic and the staff are polite but on the downside, the internet connection is awful (I was able to get online once during my stay, hot water is not always available and the food is overpriced and uninspiring.

We were booked in as a part of a tour and I was a bit dubious after reading some reviews. ..but it was a great place to spend a couple of nights.
We were on the busy side (room 102) and the noise did not worry us...it was very relaxing to watch the fishermen and water traffic go by. The rooms are about 3 star but view is 6 star. We ate at the restaurant both nights and the food was very good and not too expensive. (Tip..we bought some snacks and drinks before boarding the boat on Nyaungshwe...although the minibar price of drinks was reasonable...beer 2000Kyat).
A great place to relax and unwind.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.

This was truly a unique experience, living in cottages supported by poles over the lake. The hotel is run by and for the benefit of the Pa-O people. The staff were always helpful, attentive and happy people. The daily longboat excursions to various village markets, businesses, floating gardens and Temples were very different and fun. The hotels restaurant had delicious, well priced food and the complimentary breakfast was excellent. Reception staff had a good command of English and were helpful on what to do and see daily. We had loads of fun and thanks to all the staff for making their place and enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: We enjoyed staying in the cottages facing toward Nampan village

I was there last 24 April 2014, the hotel is made in wood on the lac and the location so quite and romantic ! I had there only one night, and they have electricity after 5 pm from the generator ! all us ok, the rooms nice and clean, all you need you can find in there! also the restaurant work well. food are very good making. and many to choose. the bar also can offer you liquors and beers and no alcoholic drinks. please try this nice hotel with the staff so kind. you cannot go out to have your dinner because you need to have a private boat, not sure in night time! visit it and enjoy your vacation! Lovely unique hotel with all rooms (as far as I know) over water Food was good with reasonable variety beds comfy and bathrooms were celan and tidy. This is really and R & R place as you can only leave by water so unless there si something on (and there is sometimes) you have to make your own evening entertainmement
BUT there si a great Japanes trained masseur and for 8.00USD for an hour was very enjoyable

Room Tip: Use the Massage service

We were cheated by our travel agent, Birma.com, who promised the 4-star Inle Princess Resort and other top hotels during our trip. After the money had been transferred, they downgraded our hotel rooms and/or changed our hotels.
Having been to Myanmar and stayed on Inle Lake before, we thought we knew what to expect but not this!
We found ourselves staying 2 nights at Golden Island Cottages on Inle Lake where it was impossible to sleep as we heard Buddist chanting all night long in the monastry close by and then got the very noisy lake boat traffic starting at 4am. We were rather exhausted by the time we left!
It gets hot during the day and very cold during the night on the lake. There is no heating and only an electric fan in the rooms so it gets challenging to stay cool then warm at night. The damp seeps up from the water during the night and chills you and sets your teeth chattering as the hotel rooms are on stilts. Fortunately, they had extra blankets!
We tried to sit outside our rooms in the evening after getting back to the hotel before dinner but got attacked by swarms of midges.
Inle Lake was wonderful and traveling around on the boat visiting all the different areas was a treat. The sunset over the lake is very pretty.

Nice welcome but those gongs do get tedious.comfy rooms but bathroom a little basic.poor lighting.breakfast very average.good location though and the dawn boat when we left was a joy.
Our guide Naugh Naugh was also a treasure. Great food in local restaurants and good snooping around the lake. We were also recipients of a dreadful night, it was the end of the pagoda festival and the boats were noisy all night!
