“A Gem on Inle Lake”
Reviewed 16 December 2013 via mobile

Spent 3 nights at this beautiful spot. Each room a stand alone, providing plenty of privacy from other guests. If you stay in series #100 or #400 rooms you'll have your own balcony too. I stayed in #406 and I was able to enjoy the local villagers out in their boats tending their floating gardens in the early morning. Staff here fantastic, as I was sick and left behind by my friends for the day, the staff checked on my twice and offered to bring food, get a doctor etc. Organized boat excursions to local villages etc, all using locals who were proud to show us their heritage. Meals ok, with buffet encouraged since they were feeding all guests since you're 25+ minutes away from nearest town that could serve up a meal.

Stayed three nights and found it most pleasant and relaxing. Bungalow cabins or huts setting out over the water are very roomy but a little dark at night due to limited interior lighting. Shower in bathroom fixture works well but floor will be slick when wet so don't fail to use flip flops provided (water pressure adequate and very hot water most times). Wifi works okay and small frig+tea / coffee pot to brew your own. Beds comfortable enough and a very nice veranda or porch area with small table and chairs to sit out and enjoy the cool evening breeze for rooms in row 1, 3 and 4. Second row only has front door, no rear exit onto a separate veranda as the others have. Dinning room has basic menu in somewhat high prices but really no more than one would find at a restaurant in the west. Breakfast buffet comes with most rooms and is ample if not original in its fare. No where else to find a restaurant unless you take the long boats back to the mainland in another 40-min. one-way trip. Service very good and prompt with shan band musical greetings on arrival, moist towel to wipe up and orange juice drink to greet you on landing. Nice sunset views and happy hour drinks beginning at 5-7 pm. No A/C or fans but open windows / doors have a nice night time breeze and little evidence of any mosquitoes. Safe isolated resort with access only by long boats but a monastery nearby can awaken you at night with chants and prayers starting as early as 3 am.

Room Tip: Would suggest avoiding the second row rooms as they have only the front door entrance and no backsid...

Hi,

Thank you for your kind review. We are happy to hear you had a pleasant stay. We've taken note of your feedback and are working to add more lighting in the near future. As for the chants and prayers in early morning hours, we've been in talks with the village authorities many times to adjust the noise level, but as it is part of the culture and religion, we thank you with all our heart for your understanding. Hope to see you again sometime!

With best regards,

We stayed at the resort for only one night and it was worderful!
The bungalow over the water are very cozy and huge! Very nice balcony also!
The staff is very friendly and helpful!
There's a deck where from 5pm there's a Happy Hour. The saw the sunset from the deck and it was breath taking!!
My only complain is that the restaurant is overpriced! As we don't have a choice (unless you get a boat) we had to eat there!

we were greeted warmly when we arrived. The service was excellent, We stayed 2 wonderful nights. We were given the lake view. It was just stunning and we slept with curtains open as there was so much privacy. We can't tell it to you in words, you must try it for a wonderful experience. The restaurant served western and chinese food. Breakfast is ala-carte consist of fruits, choice of eggs, sausage or ham with toast. We had dinner for the 2 nights, service is excellent but the food is average and very expensive as compared to other restaurants.

Room Tip: for those whose want privacy, rooms 103 to 114 facing the lake

Royal Inle Resort is situated a 40 min boat ride south west of Nyang Schwe. I stayed here for three nights as part of a Peregrine tour (the first group they ever brought here).

We were greeted by a live performance of traditional Shan music, orange juice and towels - a warm and memorable welcome.

The whole resort is built on stilts and the bungalows are scattered in four rows, row number one offering the most spectacular sunset view imaginable. The bamboo bungalows are spacious, comfortable and nicely decorated. All amenities are here, robes and slippers especially appreciated from my part. A walk-in closet takes you to the bathroom.

All bungalows have a small porch where you can enjoy the magnificent scenery and watch the local lake life.

Breakfast was westernised and they prepare eggs as you like them. Dinner menu is a combination of Shan dishes, Thai and Chinese. Everything was nicely presented and tasty.

Staff was plentiful and they all spoke very good English. They very extremely helpful and did all they could to make our stay a comfortable and memorable one.

The resort offers free wifi at the reception area. A couple of times it worked in my bungalow but I guess that was pure luck. Either way you don't come to Inle Lake to be online, you come to visit the unspoilt villages in a precious corner of the world.

If you've read this far, you have probably worked out that I highly recommend Royal Inle Resort.
