“Fantastic food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 April 2013

Viewpoint is a wonderful boutique Hotel with outstanding decor and service to match.
Rooms are gorgeous but very hot.
But the food is amazing - especially the Shan dishes. Prices are so cheap.
A must for visitors to Inle Lake - eat here even if you are not staying.

These cottages on the river that leads to Inle Lake are a lovely oasis. Close enough to walk into "town" but far enough from the hustle and bustle, this is a perfectly located hotel. It's also steps from where the boats launch for the biggest attraction of all - touring Inle Lake. The breakfast is also fantastic. The dinner is a great experience even if the Burmese food isn't the best of the bunch in SE Asia. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful after our initial challenge on arrival of being put in the one room that really shouldn't be used, #105 -- the location is nothing short of crappy as it looks over what is nearly a sewer and it's a very load location b/c of all the boats going by from dawn to dusk. We were upgraded to room #205 which was amazing and I think all other rooms would also be great.

Room Tip: Avoid room #105 if possible! Ideally face west, away from where all the boats are on the river (tow...

We spent 3 nights in this hotel and simply loved it.

Great Location: Near the canal, which is great whenever you want to find a boat to go to Inle lake.

Amazing rooms: tastefully decorated, huge rooms and very clean!

Superb food: every morning, we were in a hurry to wake up and get the best breakfast in Myanmar!

Stunning service: staff was very helpful and extremely nice!

We will definitely be back!

Although this hotel was beyond my budget I booked it for I was afraid not to get a room near Inle Lake. When I arrived I was very glad to have done so since the place was worth every cent of it. I am architect and depend very much on the atmosphere of a place. Here I felt at home immediately. My room was well designed, every little detail beautiful. And what is more and maybe not immediately visible for somebody not of the profession: this hotel is an outstanding model of sustainability. No concrete but all ecological materials, limestone, clay, wood and even walls shaded and cooled on the outside by flowering plants. The water from the tap is of drinking quality, so this was the first place where I happily broke my iron principle "cook it, peel it or forget it" . I washed the grapes of the basket of fresh fruit which I found in my room every day in hot water from the tap, they were delicious. There are so many things which show people really mean sustainability, not just pretend: no plastic bags in the basket for waste but paper, a set of natural bath cosmetics of the Shan people here with an explanation how to use it: I tried it and it was a treat.

The breakfast with fine homebaked brioche, croissants, yoghurt, just to name some, served in the view of the boats going by makes you start the day in the best of moods. The exquisite way of preparing Shan food made for the best dinner I had in Myanmar.

The staff is friendly and very helpful. They even solved my personal internet problem, so I could use the WiFi.

The location on the canal leading to the lake, the bungalows on stilts in the water, with a veranda, whith a view over the landscape made me spend hours there and just relax. As it is the lakeside end of the town it is an ideal place for taking one of their bikes and explore the countryside.

Whenever I might have the chance to return to Myanmar I certainly will come back to this place and then for more than the four nights I spent here!

The location of the hotel is just perfect...near Nyaung Shwe village and close to the lake. What a surprise to see those beautiful eco-bungalows surrounded by mountains and rice fields on the back of the first building.Rooms are spacious and clean and they have an amazing breakfast. The staff are very friendly. Both western and shan food are really good. The fact that the chef used to work in fine dining restaurant is maybe helping! Large selection of wines & champagnes at reasonable price.

Room Tip: Take a drink near the fireplace when the sun's goes down....before and after dinner!

We stayed at this hotel for three nights and ate there each evening as there are not a lot of options in the town. The rooms were excellent although, when we arrived, mid afternoon, we were put off by the noise outside which was not particularly restful. Our room was on the non-river side and we were assured that the noise would drop significantly at dusk, which to our surprse it did. The restaurant was nicely laid out and open to the atmosphere in the street. We felt the service to be very good, despite the young average age of the staff, and the food was original and well thought through. Overall the place was great, a genuine boutique hotel in a bustling town which you had to take as part of the experience.
