“Nice hideaway”
Reviewed 2 June 2013

I booked this hotel after reading good reviews about it from TripAdvisor. Well, it lived up to my expectation. The food in the restaurant was great. Reasonably priced and delicious. Breakfast was sumptuous and nicely presented.

Room is huge and spacious. One of the biggest hotel rooms I have ever seen. Peaceful and quiet surrounding. This is a perfect place for honeymooners. I had an in-room massage which was very relaxing.

However, I find it a little pricey. Maybe it was peak season when I went. But the service is tip top. Everyone I met was friendly. If you want to book an Inle Lake boat trip, maybe you can consider booking it elsewhere besides the hotel. A guide approached me when I was cycling around town and the price he quoted was far cheaper than that of the hotel.

The bicycle rental from the hotel is pretty expensive too. But overall, it's a nice experience and I'd recommend this hotel to those who visit Nyaungshwe.

We booked after reading great reviews on here. Having come from hot Bagan and basic accommodation, this was quite luxurious. Welcome drink on arrival (been some time between good wines!) was great while they checked us in. We got an upgrade to one of the rooms overlooking the paddy fields. The room itself was lovely - comfy beds, separate sitting room with plasma tv and huge shower with natural products to use. The staff was very friendly and accommodating (thanks Nyi Nyi) and allowed us a very late check out at 5pm when our bus left. Breakfast is awesome - fruit, pastries, cheese, cold meat, eggs, yoghurt, juice. I also recommend the steamed butterfish. 10min walk into the centre of town. Bikes are a little pricier to rent but they have gears which made it easier to go off track and explore more comfortably. Would recommend this hotel.

We loved ViewPoint Lodge. A perfect, central location on the canal. The rooms are lovely, bathrooms are perfect, modern plumbing, stone floors and shower, immaculately clean. We had a back view of a pathway for walkers and motor cycles. Beyond the path were rice fields. It was a beautiful, local view. The dining room is incredible. On one side is a view of the road, canal and town, on the other is the rice fields. The service is superb, very helpful. We would stay again on our next trip. Breakfast is the best!

Room Tip: The rooms on the side of the rice field are my favorite, very quiet, beautiful view. I can't sa...

This is a very well set-up and located hotel. The cottage style rooms are comfortable and roomy. Ask for a room facing the paddy fields...an evening drink on your balcony looking over this rural scene is great. The staff are very good, and most helpful. The restuarant serves excellent meals. The hotel is better located than its main rival, Hotel Amazing. We can thoroughly recommend the View Point.

Another glowing review to add to the rest...we thoroughly enjoyed our 2 days at Viewpoint and wished we could have had longer! The location is excellent - right on the canal that leads to Inle Lake, which means you're able to jump on a boat pretty much right outside. It's also just across a little bridge to town - a 5 minute walk to eateries, etc. The place itself is very tasteful. There is a nice open restaurant (where breakfast is also served) that offers almost a 360 of the local surroundings. The walkways and individual cottages are very pretty and again, tastefully done. The attention to detail is noticeable - little touches for example a basket of fruit in the room, as well as traditional Shan beauty products to try. And sitting on the deck above the water as the ducks glide past, taking in views of rice paddies, is pretty lovely. If you are a cat person, there are little kittens, and if you are a dog person, there is a friendly labrador who greets you at the entrance! Finally, as with the rest of the country, we found the staff to be sweet and attentive.

I had a great time staying here. The staff are friendly and helpful. I took along a folding kayak which the staff helped me assemble. They also let me store it there while I went back to Yangon for a few days which was great.

The hotel location is at the start of the 5km canal that leads to Inle Lake which makes for a short boat ride to get out on the lake. Most of the other hotels in Nyaung Shwe are not as close to the lake as this.

The food in the restaurant has a good mix of regional dishes. It costs more than most other restaurants in town but I think it is worth it. The restaurant is on the second floor of the hotel and overlooks a bridge over the canal. It is a good place for people watching.

We spent three nights at the Viewpoint Lodge, and very much enjoyed our stay. We didn't know quite what to expect but in retrospect were very glad we stayed in the town itself (Nyaungshwe) as opposed to one of the "resorts" which appeared to be fairly isolated on the lake. The hotel was managed by a Swiss gentleman, who was long in Myanmar and also owned a nice restaurant in Yangon (Le Planteur). In speaking to him in the bar, we understood that the owners have a reasonably balanced view towards local development, including trying to maximize outsourcing to locally-owned companies, etc. We were there during the Buddha Festival, and rented a boat twice to go watch. The first time we had a terrible boat driver, who lied to us and otherwise led to a terrible experience; upon being notified, the hotel didn't hesitate to comp the cost, and the driver we had the next day (one of the regular drivers used by the hotel) was outstanding. The room was great, overlooking a canal and rice paddies, where we could sit and watch local life go by while drinking local cold beer on the balcony. They did a great job incorporating lots of local elements in the room, including a v creative minibar. There was no A/C, so beware, but the room was comfortable enough. We also enjoyed some of the local pets, including some (mostly wild) ducks and a cool, friendly dog named Bissou (sp?). We'd definitely go back
