“Truly luxurious hotel!”
Reviewed 13 February 2014

Each night a rose was left in the room when the mosquito nets were put into place on the beds. Also appropriate for the cold nights a hot water bag was put under the sheets and blanket.

The breakfast buffet was extensive, so much so that one did not know where to start - or stop

The hotel faces onto Inle Lake which is a gorgeous view.We left each day for sightseeing in a boat from their pier.
In Bagan we stayed at their hotel and did not like the old room which need refurbishing. This was excellent!

We stayed four nights at the Aureum Palace and enjoyed it very much. The rooms are huge and luxuriously decorated. In January the nights are cold and we appreciated the hot water bottles we found every night in our bed.
When I read, that people are complaining about the slow Internet and they cannot do important work - well this is a place to relax! By the way there was is fast internet in Myanmar.
We want to say thank you to the friendly staff, specially to Pa Pa Min, who does a great job.

We stayed at it's sister property in Bagan and loved it. Were hoping for the same experience here but were sadly disappointed. First of all, it is NOT on the lake. It is on a slough at best. To make matters worse we arrived to open our front drapes to the view of a digger. I asked for a different room but they said they would move the digger, which they did for half a day. The next day I laid sick in bed all day listening to what sounded like road construction out my front door. It is very cold and hard to get warm in the paper thin rooms. if you get up at night the bathroom is a fair distance away down steps in the dark. Not very well designed. The property is over priced although the massage was a good value and we enjoyed the restaurant. The staff are very friendly and the only redeeming feature.

Nice cozy hotel facing the lake but far from the boat's noises!!
The rooms are very beautiful , huge, with lot's of space and one or two balconies.
In the afternoon you can relax while reading a book and enjoying the view.
Right now they are preparing to build a new area where they will locate the spa - which s in tends nowadays ( but even this has it's own charm). The spa service is good.
The only way to have dinner is in the hotel and food is very good. The staff and the manager are very attentive and are always around to assist.
The rooms, specially the bathroom is a little bit cold at dawn...

Room Tip: choose one of the rooms facing the lake, in the first row...

Starting with bad points:

1) No wifi anywhere except in dining area and lobby and it is spotty at best (most of the time we could not send anything out except for a few whatsapps). There is even a "business centre" with computers but none of them could access the internet. My dad had some important work to do and he was very frustrated to say the least.

2) I took a 10-min hot shower and when my sister tried to take one after me there was no hot water left. We were told the next day that you have to wait 20 minutes between showers for the water heater to work again. This should be told to us before check in. It's pointless having a bathtub in the room if you can't put hot water in it. No one's going to take a cold bath!

3) Have to pay cash upon check out which we were also not told prior to checking in (it is a MUST to let guests know this before they check in). We were lucky to have enough cash on us.

4) Hotel receptionist staff did not seem to handle the wifi problem or hot water problem at all even after multiple complaints.

5) Dining room food was average and the decor made it feel like a makeshift cafeteria.

Now onto the good points:

1) The room is spacious and they put a hot water bottle in your bed at night so you can feel warm before you sleep.

2) The trainee manager was very friendly and approachable (I wish she was around when we needed her though).

3) The view from the pool was wonderful and we were able to get some great sunset photos from there.

4) The staff in the dining room were friendly and helpful.

We stayed at the Aureum in Bagan and it was a much better hotel in terms of service. We were also glad to have hot water and wifi!

Room Tip: Best to stay near the lobby so you don't have to walk very far

After a massive disappointment (at a different chain) in Bagan, this was just ideal to restore our faith in Burmese hospitality. We stayed 3 days and loved it. A generously sized, luxuriously appointed and carefully decorated suite, with separate shower, a wooden bath tub, a cosy sitting area, four-poster bed and a large private terrace is not bad for their lowest room category! The restaurant has a wide dinner menu and offered a themed buffet on 2 out of 3 evenings. Breakfast buffet was equally extensive and fresh. What makes this place really special, however, is the staff - personable, interested and eager to please - and the extra touches: being greeted by name, with a glass of juice or a cup of tea every time you arrive, some rose petals floating in the hand basin after the room has been made up, open fires burning on the sun deck in the evening...
On the minus side, it is a long way from anywhere, a half-hour boat ride or a little longer drive on atrocious roads. We didn't mind!

The rooms in this hotel are huge and very luxurious. There is a four poster bed, separate sitting room area, dressing area and a huge bathroom with separate tub, rain shower and toilet. You also have an outdoor terrace with views of the shore and gardens.

Room is very well furnished with a great balance of traditional Myanmar craft and modern amenities. Plenty of complimentary water and a mosquito repellent gadget ( not a coil) that is put out as part of the turn down service. As it was quite cold when we went, we were also provided with hot water bottles which was a lovely touch. Wifi slow and not available in rooms which it should be at this price level.

There is a lovely pool, dining area and large open air reception. As others have said it is a complete oversight to not have a bar area as on a cold evening the only place to have a drink in the warmth is the dining room. They do light large campfires outdoors but the wind changes direction frequently which makes this problematic.

Breakfast is very good with a wide range of European and Asian food on offer but again it is served outside which at the time of year we were there renders pre prepared items freezing cold as they are not in heated containers e.g tempura, croissants, etc. They have ample space to serve some of these items inside so no idea why they do not do this.

All the staff are extremely friendly, attentive and helpful.

We enquired about the hot water after reading the reviews on here and they explained you have to a) press a hot water switch and b) wait 45 mins between showers to allow the water to heat up. We also waited 45 mins from pressing the switch for the first shower but do not know if this was required. Note if I had not asked about the hot water I would have never have known this as they do not explain it when being shown around the room. Anyway once we knew we had no problems with hot water.

What works less well - our shore view villa came complete with an outdoor plunge pool which would have been fabulous had it not been dirty and filled with stagnant water and dead insects. They should either fill it with plants or ensure it is fit for purpose.

The "view" - again after reading the reviews on here we asked for a room without views of mud piles but alas did not get one. They explained they are trying to build tropical gardens/beds and this is why they exist. However as we explained to the General Manager ( see later as to why he got involved) they need to tell agents and guests this in advance and adjust the room rates accordingly. Otherwise everyone is expecting a view - note you will never get a full lake view as the hotel is set back away from the main lake. You will get a view of waterways and the shore.

On our second day the dreaded JCB digger appeared and started digging in the afternoon when we were trying to take a nap. After 45 mins I complained and the front office manager dealt with it immediately and had the digger moved out of sight. As I explained to the GM they should not put guests in the rooms where they know there will be noise and digging. Accept a lower occupancy rate or confine the work to am hours when guests are out touring plus put a note in the room explaining this so you can tell them if you are going to be in the resort all day. The peacefulness of the lake area just exacerbates any noise and the GM fails to manage expectations accordingly. However they did deal with the issue immediately and the GM did apologise in person.

In about a year when they finish this work and hopefully get wifi in the rooms, the hotel will be perfect.
