“A wonderful place!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 September 2013

A wonderful place! We had spent a few days in another place in Nyaungshwe because of misleading Lonely Planet advice, so finding La Maison Birmane was a fantastic relief. The bungalows are in the middle of tropical gardens, rooms are gorgeous (the owners are architects), service is perfect. Each bungalow has a little terrace where you can chill out and admire the gardens. Wow!

This is a very nice place however the owner sure is there to make money. He was not happy when I mailed to say we would make our own way there. He wanted to charge us USD 70 ONE WAY from the airport! This was crazy, crazy expensive, a real rip off!
The owner did not pay us much attention after this, which was fine. We thought the Myanmar people we just amazingly friendly, beautiful people (apart from the owner!) This is a very nice, clean place with friendly staff but be aware that the owner will take advantage of the tourist, unlike other Myanmar people.

We stayed here for 3 nights during our trip in Myanmmar. Let me say that this place is probably the Best structure we have found all around the fascinating Country. Clean and spacious room's, excellent breakfast. Very quiet place where we relaxed after 10 days of visiting. La Maison Birmane is really carefully managed by the owner, Mister Tun.
Congratulations!!!

La Maison Birmane only opened in late 2012 with 6 rooms. Designed by French architect Pierre and run by Burmese returnee Htun, it is in a quiet back street with the bungalows set around a garden that is growing everyday. Delicious breakfasts with crêpes, fresh juice and choice of eggs. They have just closed for a few months to build 4 more rooms which will include 3 smaller ones but at $65 in lower season for a bungalow with private deck, this is a steal.

Only recommendations are that they need to install Wifi and provide more information on market days, restaurant recommendations and other things to do in the area.

Highly recommended.

La maison Birmane is a lovely small hotel, where great attention is paid to design. The whole is built on a relatively small piece of land. There is no vast garden where you could sit. But the architect has made very good use the limited space that was available to him. The inside of the rooms are spacious. They have quite Spartan furnishings, but still give a luxury feel. The hotel is located a quiet neighborhood. Breakfast is OK and the staff is friendly and attentive. I still think that the price of 65$ that I paid is high, but that is what you pay now (March 2013) in Nyaungshwe
On the downside I have to say that the reservation I made by e-mail was a bit chaotic. When I tried to have to confirm the data, I received a remarkably aggressive email back. Totally inappropriate. But when I arrived everything was friendly.

I have been chasing Trip Advisor for months to get this hotel listed so I could write a review. This was an amazing find! My friend and I had the pleasure of being there when it opened in October and we were treated to a spectacular get away. I have paid 3 times the price for bungalows this nice in other countries. This is a small boutique luxury.

Most people chose to stay on the lake but my friend and I didn't want to be contained to one location for all meals and activities. This is the best option in town. Everything including the dock, restaurants and massages were short walks. Green Chili was our favorite restaurant close by. Rooms were spacious and you could sleep 3 easily. Bathrooms were open with nice showers.

The owner is a local Burmese who lived in France for years. He studied architecture and this is his baby. Having lived in France he appreciates food and the breakfasts don't disappoint. Breakfast was both pancakes and eggs. Jam was homemade with vegetables and fruit from the garden on the premise. They even made fresh ginger lemon tea for me. When there are more guestrooms they will likely also provide dinner and possibly cooking classes.

For things to do in town. There is a nice spa-like massage place near the market. Ask the owner for the name. Massages were $10 for an hour. Also rent bikes and ride to the winery for lunch and wine tasting.

The place is wonderful and quiet. Nothing more to ask for in Myanmar. Price is compared to other Hotels in Myanmar fair. Myanmar in general is more expensive than other countries in Southeast Asia. I would have given five stars for accommodation and friendly staff. But the owner greeted us yelling and shouting. We had a misunderstanding concerning the transport. We did not know that a pick up from Heho Airport had been organized and we therefore came on our own. The owner did not stop yelling at us as he thought we did it on purpose. Even when we said we would pay his driver he would not stop. His poor staff was embarrassed. At the end we did pay his driver and the owner did not talk to us for our whole stay of 3 days. Not even a good morning. Very poor behavior.
