“NOISY!!!!!”
Reviewed 25 February 2014 via mobile

This is a very nice looking hotel. The rooms are nice and breakfast is adequate. It looks out over the canal that leads into Inle Lake.
Now for the BIG negative. Because of its location, there is an almost constant noise from the long tail canal boats. By constant, I mean from as early as 4:30am until as late as 9:00 pm. It is so loud that you can't even carry on a conversation in you room! Really- and forget about sleeping. We did have a room with a view of the canal, but I'm not sure if the rooms in the back would have been much better. It was just that loud!!!!
The little negative: the hotel is staffed by a bunch of young( 20 something- if that). They are all very sweet, but have absolutely no clue. We were always looking for the person in charge--
This is really a great town with so many other accommodation options. Don't stay here if you want to sleep!

spent five nights with my family here. initially was planned 2 nights but our stay was so comfortable and the staff is so lovely, kind, helpful and friendly that we felt home and extended our stay.
we stayed in the family room on the 1st floor with ensuite two king beds. in front of our room was an outdoor sitting area with view to the river in front. the room had fanstastic views as well. mainly to the river where you can just sit either in your room or at the outdoor area to watch the locals and their daily routines.breakfast was served on the terasse and was a bit plain but plenty.
there is complementary water and toilletry in the rooms and wifi available in the common areas and in the rooms as well.
since its right at the river where all the boats to the lake depart, its very convenient to just go down and ask a boat driver to take you to places on the lake. inlestar can provide you umbrellas for the boat trip.
just around the corner is the main drag with all kind of local and western cafes and restaurants.
we always at the market where the one young indian lady cooks delicious local food. can totally recommend the tea leaf salad, the tofu salad and the chapatis and the shan noodles.
the whole city is under construction and hotels and tourist facilities are popping up like mushrooms. so there is some construction noise in the whole city. whereever you stay you cant escape that! what made inlestar so special was not only the accomodation itself but its staff. they are exceptionally friendly and helpful!!! i can recommend this lovely place to everyone!

Room Tip: family room on the first floor are large and have two king beds.

Arrived late to Nyaungshwe due to a late flight and they only had our room left.
The room was filthy and dirty that it was disgusting! Paying $60 usd for a dirty room just cause its high season is a rip-off. But we were so tired and not in the mood to look for another place at 9pm.
Dirty bedsheets and dirty towels
Wi-fi not available in the room we got so why do they advertise it?

Staff unhelpful and didnt care about the complaints of cleanliness

VERY VERY NOISY AS ITS NEXT TO THE CANAL so not worth staying there as the city is so small so better stay two block away and not suffer of loud engines roaring since early am and through the day

Compared to other choices and having traveled in more than 50 countries this ought to be one of the top rip-offs

Room Tip: Avoid the hotel and find another

Inle Star was welcome respite after trekking with a two and six year old. Very spacious room, with queen bed and a single. The lagoon that fathers in the bathroom after a shower can be a little frustrating, as too the semi wall between the shower and toilet. I couldn't sit straight when using the toilet! The staff were courteous and the breakfast plentiful. Nice balcony overlooking the riverfront and bridge. The noise from the boats is loud, but it does stop. But what are you expecting coming to Nyaungshwe? The boats are a draw card and the noise was rhythmic helping us all get to sleep. Very happy with the experience.

Inle Star Motel is a pretty good choice. Our room was good - clean, serviced daily. Breakfast was consistently good (great eggs!), though the rooftop is a little chilly at this time of year!

The location is great. There is wifi, but it doesn't always work - this is the same everywhere in Nyaungshwe though. The staff are helpful, though they don't all have great english. However, it seems there is always someone available with good English so it's not really a problem.

The only real issue is the noise from the boats. It's not to be underestimated - I've heard quieter helicopters. All is quiet between 10pm and 6am though, and a pair of earplugs sorts things out nicely.

I'd stay again!

My boyfriend and I arrived at the hotel, only to find out that they didn't have double beds (even though we requested one a month ago when we booked). We were a little annoyed, but said it was okay and took the twin room. The people who worked there weren't too concerned about our problems though. They pretty much said "take it or leave it". We walked into the room to find soiled sheets, a FILTHY bathroom and dirty, used towels. We requested new towels, and I cleaned the bathroom before I would use it. It was so dirty I wouldn't even walk barefoot in it before I cleaned it. The next morning we woke up, tried to shower, but there was no hot water. Apparently they use solar heating, and because the town is very misty in the mornings, they only get hot water in the afternoon. Are you kidding me?? It's freezing in inle in the morning - you cannot shower in cold water as you will get sick. We promptly checked out, and moved to another hotel. For $60 a night inle star hotel is a joke! Also, be prepared to be woken up at 4:30am by boats outside the room. We moved to royal inlay hotel, for a similar price, got amazing service and a fantastic room. Do not stay at inle star! The room was not even worth $10. Worst I have seen in a month in Asia!

PROS:

Right next to the bridge over the canal, the location has easy access to boats for Inle Lake trips, close to restaurants, travel agents, bike rental, shops, pagodas.

Rooms are spacious and clean with comfortable beds, quality linens, and great balconies overlooking the canal. Best sleep I had in Myanmar!

The motel is pretty new and is a reasonably priced mid-range option in town. There's a roof-top restaurant which offers good views over the canal.

CONS:

The loud engines of boats plying the canal from early morning until after dark could drive noise-sensitive travellers a bit crazy. The nights are mercifully quiet.

Drainage in the bathroom is so poor that you have to don flip flops to wade through a pool of standing water to access the sink or toilet.

Hot water is a distant possibility. Seems to be warmer at some times of day than at others.

The young staff speak little if any English. Orders went unfilled, questions went unanswered.
