“Clean and central”
Reviewed 11 December 2013

We were satisfied with the Hupin.

Our room was 310 so only two flights up, in the front block above reception. We were on a back corner overlooking restaurant which was a noisy on Sun afternoon when we got back from bike riding - wedding going full blast!Finished by 3.30pm though. The electric point was above the wardrobe in the corner an a bit wonky. Had to wedge my adaptor with the tissue box.

Smallest room we had in Myanmar but clean. "Wet" bathroom, no shower curtain like most of country.

Fridge worked, didn't use TV. Safety deposit boxes in reception.

Like another reviewer, I was booked into this hotel by Yangon based Intrepid Travel. I wish I had done better research. The façade is good but that's where it ends. Rooms beginning with 8 are on the fourth floor with no lifts - so a hefty climb each time you go in and out The rooms were different to say the least. The beds were almost in the middle of the room - not backing onto a wall and bedside cabinets BEHIND the headboard. Extension cords criss crossed the room quite dangerously. Bathrooms were just okay and a bit waterlogged. The first rooms at the top of the stairs (like mine was) have their light switch OUTSIDE of the room. So when someone wants to put the stair lights on, they inadvertently put on your room light. Amazing!
Worse was to come at the breakfast room. Several tour groups use this hotel and they usually get off to an early start. So late comers are left with empty drink containers and no food available. They knew what I was doing taking photos of empty containers but made no move to get more food. Several others complained about this and I even went to reception to complain but it all fell on deaf ears. I ended up going elsewhere for breakfast.
The room cleaning staff were quite young and kept the rooms very clean but one morning I caught the Chinese supervisor screaming at the poor wretches - I don't know what it was about but it was not a nice experience
The hotel is in a good location - right near the markets and some reasonable restaurants - but out of principle I did not use the nearby Hupin Restaurant owned by the same people as the hotel.

Room Tip: If you don't want a hefty climb, ask for a lower floor as there are no lifts

Cheap and cheerful. Clean and comfortable. Staff were very helpful. Hupin restaurant nearby nice - great fish in lime and chili. Own boat ramp. Located very centrally just off the main street but quiet enough. Usedmy own mosquito net.

Although the building is really ugly and not very functional, the rooms are clean and the bed was confortable. For some reason though there was a strong smell of cigarette in my bathroom, probably coming from the room below. The TV worked well but quite a few plugs didn't. They have a nice breakfast on the ground floor. You can easily walk to the pier and there are plenty of good restaurants (French Touch, Butterfly) not so fare away. The market is just a 2 minutes walk away.

Room Tip: Rooms 801 to 809 are on the 4th floor without lift.

The room was spotless, really, it gleamed! (maybe it was the mostly fluorescent lights) Not an elegant room but very functional. Bed was comfortable, the pillow however, was way too fat and way too hard (several in the group had the same complaint. Substituted the bed pillow with the throw pillow on the couch and it was fine. Bathroom configuration was interesting... it had 2 showers... one over the tub, one freestanding in a corner. The freestanding I discovered was common in Burma. Just a shower head in the wall. Some in the group didn't have hot water for their showers. Probably didn't help that we were all in showering at about the same time.

The hotel was very nice with a lovely view of the Inle Lake, specially in the morning. Rooms were clean, but small. The staff was friendly and helpful. You can arrange the Boat Trips in Inle Lake through the hotel, which is safer.

Good shower over the bath, otherwise a wall shower flooded the whole bathroom. It was nice to open a window to let in some real air. There was a safety-deposit box in the room. I had to ask at the front desk about a laundry list and prices, and a bit of paper was provided, and a folder opened to show the prices. Would have prefered a price list in the room. WiFi was turned off in the late evening, which was a bit inconvenient. Breakfast was fine, with the variety of cake being offered. No kettle/tea/coffe in the room.
