“Good location for exploring”
Reviewed 17 May 2014 via mobile

We stayed here on a group tour the rooms were very basic but the AC worked well. The breakfast was better than expected with a good selection of food. The hotel is near the town, a 5 minute walk, so easy to get around. Turning left and then left again out of the hotel takes you to a olace where you can get a long tail boat and complete a tour of Inle lake.

Overall a decent hotel if all you need it for is the location.

Hotel was rather dated, room was large and clean. Had a good sleep, although initially felt coldish
but later found extra bedding in the wardrobe. The staff were very kind, friendly and helpful.
the hotel was in a good position, not too far from the town main street, and also the boat station for Inle lake. There were lots if good restaurants nearby, a pub type shop, and also the local market, which was very interesting.
Breakfasts were plentiful, being a mix of local and European dishes, with an egg 'station', where the chef made omlettes, lots of fresh fruit too.
Wifi was quite poor and reception was terrible unless you sat near / close to reception.
cant comment on costs as I did not pay for this hotel.

We stayed at the Hupin Nyaung Shwe after staying at their other location on Inle Lake. It was really nice to be in the "town" of Nyaung Shwe after feeling so isolated at Inle! The hotel has a great location, short walk to the boats and lots of restaurants nearby. The big market is just across the street, and a few banks (with ATM machines) within blocks of the hotel.

The internet was pretty strong at reception and they serve an ample breakfast in a nice open dining area. Had a corner room, which was quite large and comfortable with lots of seating areas. The electricity went out a few times, for long periods - but I think this was more of a Myanmar thing, and not the fault of the hotel.

Their laundry service was really fast and very reasonably priced. And the staff was extremely helpful with giving directions, calling my boat driver, etc. Definitely recommend this hotel if you're visiting Nyaung Shwe.

Our room near the back was spacious, it looked a bit bare but had everything you wanted except for the lack of coat hangers (4). The bathroom was OK, but dated, and there were a couple of large chunks out of the bath and rawl plugs left in the wall from previous fittings. Toothbrushes, shower gel, conditioner and soap were supplied. There are no lifts, but the staff will help with your suitcases.

The boat jetty is not too far a walk from the hotel. At 6.30 each morning the monks pass by, with donations being given by the hotel. Within about five minutes’ walking distance are restaurants and shops so it’s in quite a handy position. There is a small shop on the main road that stocks a few (mostly unpriced) items.

The window shutters didn’t close properly and the locals were burning rubbish or barbecue cooking, so there was a constant smell of smoke in the room. The sound of local dogs barking, cockerels crowing, curtains that did not meet, and a huge deep pillow didn’t help sleep either. Ear plugs didn’t do much to help!

We tried the air con but it didn’t work, the owners probably knew that as there was a large fan in the room but we didn’t really need it. There was a gap around the air con vent where mosquitos could come straight through. One of the light switches near the bathroom was loose with wires showing. Would not recommend the hotel for these reasons.

However the breakfast was really good, although it is situated outdoors under cover and can get chilly. The omelette-lady chef made great-tasting omelettes in front of you. There was a nice arrangement of plants in pots in the courtyard.

The wi-fi was painfully slow.

Hotel is a little tired and shabby but generally delightful. Wi-fi outside reception works well. Staff are great and most helpful and breakfast offers great choice of local and international food. Hotel has own biat service to all tourist attractions ... even if our boat broke down on way back.

Hupin Hotel is well placed to access boats onto Inle lake- our main reason for visiting. Positives include helpful staff who go out of their way to meet your needs - just ask for a pot of tea and a young lad is sent to the kitchen immediately; plenty of hot water to wash; enough things at breakfast to choose eg freshly made pancakes and omelettes; the best laundry in Myanmar - each item returned packaged as if brand new for very little cost.
However small rooms with ancient fittings, a primitive bathroom and no heating anywhere despite chilly mornings.
I did sleep well at night as it is very quiet and it is in a good position to see the build up to fascinating five day market if you happen to be there at the right time.

Stayed here for 2 nights after a 12 day bicycling tour. Conveniently located for eating and catching boats out to the lake. The only Shan BBQ place is about 5 minutes away and worth checking out . The breakfast here is acceptable but nothing flash, largish selection of mainly local breakfast options but there was always fresh fruit, eggs and toast available. tea nad coffee are the same as most places. Couldn't drink the 3 way mix sachets of coffee, whitener and sugar -that's available everywhere. Try the hotels attempt at coffee but drink it black. Rooms were pretty standard and there is a few stairs. The restaurant/breakfast area is large and open so it can be a bit chilly early. See if you can find the little kitsch boat full of wedding Barbies
