“Not BAD But !”
Reviewed 4 April 2014

When we arrived at this hotel by car , I thought we getting out at someones private house , it just did not look like a hotel from out side . Once through reception it opens up , nice little pool, restaurant, two story accomodation blocks We were given an upstairs room , when you enter the room the first thing we noticed was that the floor tiles look as though they have been "mopped" by an extremely muddy mop! maybe its just a very unfortunate tile design , the second thing was the heat ! The AC was doing nothing and you see why when you look up.

There is no primary ceiling , you look right at the ceramic roof tiles which have been baking in the hot sun all day. The can see the sunlight pouring between the gaps in them , at night when it's dark your room lights would shine out through them and attract the bugs.

We asked if we could pay for an upgrade and we were moved to the "New Block " they were much more normal construction, the AC was effective and the rooms pleasant , but still with strange muddy look tiles.

OK ! we were happier. The hotel is really on its own , nothing around it at all so we decided to eat there , ordered a glass of wine each , not cheap ! but when the wine arrived the glasses were very small and only half full ! I asked why and the waitress said "that is our measure" I pointed out that if it says " A Glass " of wine , you cannot serve" half "a glass of wine ( we're talking an egg cup of wine in a glass.that would only hold 2 eggcups full) The waitress agreed to fill the glass with another little top up.

I suspect that this hotel is struggling to make a profit and taking measures to maximise any margin.

All in all , once you are inside it looks quite "Cute" but it is not our cup of tea in any way, and the glasses of wine are not either.

We were glad to move on , too many hassles in a very short space of time even though it appeared that there were only about six other guests at the time..

I think Battambang is a journey breaking place and there is not a lot going for it in terms of visitors so it is possible that the hotels are struggling a bit !

Room Tip: Don,t go for the upper floors in the red tiled houses , go for new wing .

This boutique hotel is delightful! The staff was wonderful and really helpful, cute and charming. The room was the perfect size for 2 friends to share, we had space to open up our suitcases, 2 beds, dresser, armoire, lot of amenities, a huge bathroom and plenty of room left over. Every morning towels and little sun hats are left on the pool chairs (very comfy), but be aware, in hot season, the pool water will be very warm at most hotels, unless it is in the shade most of the day (and even then...). Breakfast was good, bar service great! we didn't eat there so I can't comment on any of the lunch or dinner items. You can walk to town, if you don't mind a 15 min. walk, but the front desk will always call a moto or tuk-tuk for you. There are only 2 reasons I didn't give Bambu 5 stars, and they are very minor... 1) Other boutique hotels in Cambodia at this price range that I've stayed in have offered free tuk-tuk to/from town. 2) The room probably needed a good "spring" cleaning. The wall along the bottom of the shower had a bunch of mold, which I realize is difficult to deal with in the tropics, but this was very soft, I could scrap gently with my nail and it came right off... basically it demonstrated that someone just needed to run a scrub brush quickly around the walls every few days and that would control it.

Stayed here for two nights on our travels.
Received a lovely friendly welcome from the owner even though he supports Arsenal!
All staff were pleasant and I got the impression that they were treated well by the owner which was nice to see.
The rooms were large and adequate.Perhaps the location can be a little noisy as we were disturbed very early in the mornings.
The pool and bar area is attractive creating a nice ambience when a few people there..Good menu at reasonable prices.
Wish we could have stayed a bit longer.

Would just like to add to all the positive reviews about the Bambu. We stayed just before Christmas and had an extremely pleasant 3 nights. Pat and his staff were the perfect hosts and we didn't have to think about anything except enjoying ourselves. They booked us ongoing bus tickets to Phnom Penh and even gave us a free lift to the bus station. We had a great day out in the countryside around Battambang, made so memorable by our English speaking driver who works with the Bambu. Highly recommended and would love to return.

This is a great little hotel that ticks all of the boxes. Best of all, the staff look so happy, especially the young cooks in the restaurant having lots of laughs whilst they go about their work. Beautiful pool, excellent bar and the one meal we ate in the restaurant was superb. Our only regret was not staying longer. We stayed 2 nights but arrived late so only had one day in Battambang which is not enough to explore this wonderful place. We also borrowed bikes from the hotel which were in good condition.

Being two people of a certain age, we have just returned from a wonderful 7 night trip through Cambodia, organised by Exotic Voyages. The holiday was tailored to our requirements, with the trip accompanied by local drivers and guides. The guides were very knowledgable re the historic sites we visited and were excellent company. The highlight for us was the boat trip from Battembang to Siem Reap, seeing Cambodia in its natural beauty.
The three hotels were all very good but for intimacy and charm the Bambu in Battambang stands out as a jewel with great staff and food.
All in all one of our best holidays thanks to Exotic Voyages

This hotel has a beautiful property in the city of Battambong. We used this hotel as a gettaway from busy Siem Reap and it was exactly what we wanted: quiet pool area, nice, cosy room with a large and well accessible bathroom and good food - try the ice cream. Being a wheelchair user it was especially great that the resort was fitted with ramps to get around. Also the host was very friendly and attentative and for example picked us one night up from the restaurant to bring us back to the hotel. All for free. If we visit Battambang again, we would deflinately be back.

Room Tip: Room at the ground floor are all accessible but perhaps a bit dark, but the upper floors might get a...
