When we arrived at this hotel by car , I thought we getting out at someones private house , it just did not look like a hotel from out side . Once through reception it opens up , nice little pool, restaurant, two story accomodation blocks We were given an upstairs room , when you enter the room the first thing we noticed was that the floor tiles look as though they have been "mopped" by an extremely muddy mop! maybe its just a very unfortunate tile design , the second thing was the heat ! The AC was doing nothing and you see why when you look up.
There is no primary ceiling , you look right at the ceramic roof tiles which have been baking in the hot sun all day. The can see the sunlight pouring between the gaps in them , at night when it's dark your room lights would shine out through them and attract the bugs.
We asked if we could pay for an upgrade and we were moved to the "New Block " they were much more normal construction, the AC was effective and the rooms pleasant , but still with strange muddy look tiles.
OK ! we were happier. The hotel is really on its own , nothing around it at all so we decided to eat there , ordered a glass of wine each , not cheap ! but when the wine arrived the glasses were very small and only half full ! I asked why and the waitress said "that is our measure" I pointed out that if it says " A Glass " of wine , you cannot serve" half "a glass of wine ( we're talking an egg cup of wine in a glass.that would only hold 2 eggcups full) The waitress agreed to fill the glass with another little top up.
I suspect that this hotel is struggling to make a profit and taking measures to maximise any margin.
All in all , once you are inside it looks quite "Cute" but it is not our cup of tea in any way, and the glasses of wine are not either.
We were glad to move on , too many hassles in a very short space of time even though it appeared that there were only about six other guests at the time..
I think Battambang is a journey breaking place and there is not a lot going for it in terms of visitors so it is possible that the hotels are struggling a bit !
