“Glorious place - don't miss it!”
Reviewed 8 May 2014

This place takes some beating. The British owner Pat is clearly in love with Cambodia and has done a fine job in building this hotel. His relationship with his wonderful troop of staff is very good and they all cannot do too much for you. The rooms are spectacular and the pool and restaurant areas are fantastic. The breakfast is great and the restaurant dinners also - diners are coming in from other hotels to eat here. It's a gem.

We stayed here for two nights. Our room was large and reminiscent of a Graham Greene novel with ceiling fan and Art Deco floor tiles. There was a private balcony overlooking tropical garden. Breakfast was ok but could be improved. Friendly, helpful staff. We visited bamboo railway and bat caves. Great. If non-corporate, individual hotels are your taste then this is a very good choice.

Room Tip: First floor rooms for view and airiness.

The Bambu was such a relief after cycling more than 90kms from Pailin. Staff were welcoming, pool fantastic, albeit a little warm, and we really enjoyed happy hour. Rooms were clean and spacious and the bathrooms were excellent. We ate in the restaurant and really enjoyed our meal. Wish we could've stayed longer. A tour around local industries wit soksabikes is recommended. My only complaint would be the limited breakfast options. Otherwise a fantastic stay.

Battambang is mostly a place where you stay overnight when driving around Cambodia and this hotel is fine for it:it's small with a quiet location just minutes from the city center;we were in the new part of the hotel, rooms are big enough with a nice bathroom;the pool is fine and you can have a drink at the pool bar and meet people there;the staff is friendly as well as the owner. The breakfast is OK but could be better with more offers.

This hotel is located about a 20-30 minute walk from downtown or a $2 US tuk tuk ride - It is a small complex on two levels.
Therrooms are quite rustic with lots of timber with lush tropical gardens. It has a nice small pool with a pool bar and restaurant- restaurant has good food at reasonable price (western and asian food)
The rooms are spacious with comfortable double bed, large bathroom and shower(no bath). There is plenty of space for suitcases etc. Second storey is accessed via stairs so if you have a mobility problem request a downstairs room.
The owner Pat (expat pom) and his wife were very welcoming - staff were lovely, friendly and helpful.
I aggree with a previous reviewer re the floor tiles having the appearance of being washed with a dirty mop however they were actually very clean as was the rest of the room.
Air con struggled a bit because of the design of the room however we found by putting the overhead fan on with the airconditioning it was effective.
I enjoyed this hotel and would stay here again

When we arrived at this hotel by car , I thought we getting out at someones private house , it just did not look like a hotel from out side . Once through reception it opens up , nice little pool, restaurant, two story accomodation blocks We were given an upstairs room , when you enter the room the first thing we noticed was that the floor tiles look as though they have been "mopped" by an extremely muddy mop! maybe its just a very unfortunate tile design , the second thing was the heat ! The AC was doing nothing and you see why when you look up.

There is no primary ceiling , you look right at the ceramic roof tiles which have been baking in the hot sun all day. The can see the sunlight pouring between the gaps in them , at night when it's dark your room lights would shine out through them and attract the bugs.

We asked if we could pay for an upgrade and we were moved to the "New Block " they were much more normal construction, the AC was effective and the rooms pleasant , but still with strange muddy look tiles.

OK ! we were happier. The hotel is really on its own , nothing around it at all so we decided to eat there , ordered a glass of wine each , not cheap ! but when the wine arrived the glasses were very small and only half full ! I asked why and the waitress said "that is our measure" I pointed out that if it says " A Glass " of wine , you cannot serve" half "a glass of wine ( we're talking an egg cup of wine in a glass.that would only hold 2 eggcups full) The waitress agreed to fill the glass with another little top up.

I suspect that this hotel is struggling to make a profit and taking measures to maximise any margin.

All in all , once you are inside it looks quite "Cute" but it is not our cup of tea in any way, and the glasses of wine are not either.

We were glad to move on , too many hassles in a very short space of time even though it appeared that there were only about six other guests at the time..

I think Battambang is a journey breaking place and there is not a lot going for it in terms of visitors so it is possible that the hotels are struggling a bit !

Room Tip: Don,t go for the upper floors in the red tiled houses , go for new wing .

This boutique hotel is delightful! The staff was wonderful and really helpful, cute and charming. The room was the perfect size for 2 friends to share, we had space to open up our suitcases, 2 beds, dresser, armoire, lot of amenities, a huge bathroom and plenty of room left over. Every morning towels and little sun hats are left on the pool chairs (very comfy), but be aware, in hot season, the pool water will be very warm at most hotels, unless it is in the shade most of the day (and even then...). Breakfast was good, bar service great! we didn't eat there so I can't comment on any of the lunch or dinner items. You can walk to town, if you don't mind a 15 min. walk, but the front desk will always call a moto or tuk-tuk for you. There are only 2 reasons I didn't give Bambu 5 stars, and they are very minor... 1) Other boutique hotels in Cambodia at this price range that I've stayed in have offered free tuk-tuk to/from town. 2) The room probably needed a good "spring" cleaning. The wall along the bottom of the shower had a bunch of mold, which I realize is difficult to deal with in the tropics, but this was very soft, I could scrap gently with my nail and it came right off... basically it demonstrated that someone just needed to run a scrub brush quickly around the walls every few days and that would control it.
