“It's called SKI Portillo for a reason- it's not good for snowboarders.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2013 via mobile

I hate to give my first low review from my trip but I have to. Portillo is catered for skiers. Don't bother going here, especially if you're a snowboarder.

As far as what was good, they do an excellent job of grooming the trails with the minimal snow that they got. I cannot complain about the amount of snow because that's out of the resort's control. I will complain in regards to the fact that I read Portillo snow was going to be similar to that found in Colorado-I've been to CO and its no where near as good. It's more like East Coast conditions with frozen granular in the morning and slush by 12pm if the sun is out. Also, the food at Uncle Bob's was delicious although ridiculously expensive even for resort standards- $39 for 2 burgers, fries and 2 waters.

As for the "resort" the trails are no better than a small mountain in upstate NY. Yes, the views are far more beautiful but this is not the place for an advanced/expert skier/rider. I suppose I could have worked on riding switch because I was bored within 2 hours of riding here. Not to mention the amount of skating and walking a rider has to do because of the pitch between trails. AND the steepness getting off the chairlift causing a snowboarder to really practice skating fast downwards. And I can't even begin to describe how the t-bars are the only access to the steep stuff.

Visit here for the day to check out the oldest resort in South America. ONLY stay here for the week if you've for kids who are not very experienced-it's perfect for that. Just like a cruise ship with everything laid out for the week. It's best for families and should be avoided for serious skiers/riders. Choose Valle Nevado or La Parva instead.

“Portillo brilliance”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 July 2013

Portillo is an intimate resort with breathtaking views and great groomed runs. I was lucky enough to go up for a night (most stays are Saturday to Saturday) and the Portillo Tours bus worked fine. It's a better option than driving up. The hotel dates from 1949 and the dining room has leather-cladding on the walls. There is a genuine community or family atmosphere to the place. In 2 days of skiing I had great fresh snow, stunning views of the Andes and not one single line up at any chair lift! If you are visiting Santiago on your own as I was this really is a great weekend option.

“Very Unique ski area”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 December 2012

Both times that I have visited Portillo they have gotten pounded with snow. Take the crazy lift up Roca Jack and let the games begin. The lodge itself is ugly from the outside but very warm and cozy on the inside. The food and service is nothing less than top notch. Bar scene is great. Fun crowd and good entertainment but watch out for the Pisco Sour's. Hang over city!!! Pools small but has a fabulous view of the valley. Great spot even though resort is not that big.

“Lovelly beautiful place, good skiing”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 November 2012

The view of the lake is one of the most fantastic sights you will ever see. The place is really beautiful, unique. The resort is not full of people as Valle Nevado and the service is much, much better. It is a bit small, yes, but you can find a couple of good runs for each level of difficulty. And the way the staff treats you compensate the rest. Recommend! It is the best ski resort in south america.
