“Day Trip Cajon del Maipo with Ruta Nomade”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 December 2013

I strongly advise against booking any tours with Ruta Nomade. I had a day trip booked through them to go to Cajon del Maipo for the day to do the Glacier Hike with 3 of my friends. The car that they used to drive us there was swerving on the highway, something was wrong with it and we had to turn back. Then when we went to the office to get our deposit back, the owner told us that we were over exaggerating and that they never had problems before. He then told us that we shouldn't have even gone on the hike anyway because my friend was pregnant. She is in perfectly fine condition and completely able to hike! It was insulting.
We found them to be unprofessional and disrespectful! It was a disappointing experience.

“Good Meal”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 November 2013

We took a colectivo from Cascada De Las Animas, and had a late lunch. Service was very good. My wife's pork ribs were excellent. I had a local 'stew' of mixed meats (pork, chicken, sausage). It was good but not exceptional. Prices were a bit on the high side.

“Lots of activities at Cajon Del Maipo”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 October 2013

There are lots to do here, biking, hiking, river rafting, numerous waterfalls, Glacier Tracking, snow shooing even mid Oct when we were there. Summer for the southern hemisphere where Chile is, is in Dec.

There is a beautiful lake if you take the left fork on the main road that says 'Camino Embalse El Yeso' on Google map. I don't know a word of spanish thus pls forgive my ignorance. The road actually continue on further than the map would show and the end of the road is a Hotspring or Termal.

The other road leads to the El Murado National Park and also continue on to another Hotspring named Termal Colinas or Banos Colinas. I've written a separate review on.

We enjoyed 2 days here just driving around taking pictures and the Termal Baths. I believe there is a circular road that would connect the two but am not sure as we did not drive the route. Seems that it was not recommended as there is still snow covered in many areas.

We saw a Pick up Truck get stuck in the snow that weekend we were there so we did not want to risk missing our flight home.

There were many points where we saw Glacier, its a distance and you would have to have seen a Glacier to recognize it. Fortunately, we also had a 200mm camera that could hv zoom in.

The roads are dusty, there is no Toilet out here so be prepared. Once you leave the last town, there is no water or food either. The roads are narrow at many points especially when you come close to the lake, thus exercise caution when driving. Also there are some trucks passing due to construction of a dam nearby.

We love nature and would come here again in a heartbeat!

Just one hour from Santiago de Chile, the Cajón del Maipo its the best place to visit if you want to see the magnificent Andes mountains and appreciate its natural beauty at any time of the year. Horse riding, trekking paths, rafting, and even an excursion to the glaciers, plus a good offer of restaurants and camping sites, makes this places an unmissable if you want see the beautiful mountains and really near the chilean capital.

“Middle of the mountains”

Beautiful place around the Maipo River. There are mountains wherever you look, and it feels you are in a big box. I highly recommend.
