“An original hotel with nice people”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 December 2013

This hotel is not like the others
The rooms are beautifully decorated and quiet
The people are very nice persons, always willing to help you and be friend
The place is hard to find : download the map on the website
It's far from the centre : need a car...but so quiet and peacefull...
We stayed in 2 hotels in SPA : this one is the best

This wonderful lodge is located 2.5 km of a dirty and bumpy road far from the centre of San Pedro. It is somehow hidden and not easily reachable. A car is a perfect solution. Otherwise, at least a bike would be recommended. Streets in San Pedro do no have any light at night, it is everywhere extremely dark and you would need a torch.
The lodge has won a prize and has been built with the funds of the region, for lodges and accommodations that recall the local uses and architecture. It has therefore a rural architecture in accordance with ancient and local styles.
We stayed there four nights, room No. 2. Very spacious, very nice bathroom (curiously, the tap was built too far from the bath tub and therefore the water fell on the border of the tub). Much attention to every detail. Breakfast is rich and in an elegant hut. The staff is extremely polite and pleasant. Ready to prepare a breakfast box if you leave earlier than the breakfast time for your excursions; ready to boo, excursions for you.
Everything is peaceful and I would rate the distance from the centre of San Pedro as a plus of this hotel, rather than as a downside. The rest of the hostels are packed up in one street one beside the other.
There are two nice small swimming pools but we were the only guests at this time and it was probably the end of season, so they were empty.
Stayed beginning of March 2013 rate 170 Euros per night for the double superior.
Booking.com rate was higher and the owner offered a 10% discount more.
I would definitely recommend this hotel for a peaceful and elegant stay in San Pedro.

Room Tip: Rooms 1 and 2 are wonderful

This hotel is owned by a local indigenous community that won a governmental subsidy for small businesses. It rescues some of their architectural traditions, which is reflected on the shape of the rooms (stone domes with hay roofs), resembling their ancestral homes. The cabins (which comprise the room itself, the restroom and a small terrace) are actually very spatious and comfortable. The owners are very helpful and polite. But beware, there's no A/C in the rooms, and no pool in this hotel. So if you visit San Pedro during the summer, heat will be a problem. Also, there's no restaurant, so eating at Ckamur is out of the question. Breakfasts are ok though.

Ckamur is a hotel owned by indigenous people and funded by the region. The rooms are beautiful, made in a stone configuration similar to ancestral homes in the area. The owners are so helpful they become friends in a short time. Friends of theirs, also locals, own a restaurant nearby, Baltinache Restaurant, still outside of town, that is worthy of a mention in the Michelin guide and priced like a diner. We stayed a week at Ckamur. They introduced us to the local culture, philosophy, and way of life. San Pedro de Atacama is a micro economy that fits the description of a ripoff for hotels and restaurants in general. The stay at Ckamur allowed us to avoid all that and enjoy the area. Highly recommended.
