“Good but needs to improve”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 February 2014

I booked five days in Quechua hotel via internet but when I arrived there, the person in charge told me they did not have the double bed I had asked for. I politely complained and she finally said she could put us in a room for two days (because somedone hadn't arrived) and then move to another room. We accepted because the booking (four months ago) was a lot cheaper than the other hostels and we had private toilet. The first two nights we stayed at room n°2. It was awesome: a lot of space, a big bed, everything was very clean and we had wifi with no trouble. When we were transfered to the other room (room n°5), we had some problems: it had many ants, some corner spiders (we killed 4 in total), the shower door did not work well and the water went out everytime we had showers, and the wifi did not work at all. One day I told one of the girls who was cleaning if she could fumigate or something in our room because of the ants and spiders... She said she would but nothing had changed once we got to the hotel at night. Something they should also do is change towels everyday.
In relation to breakfast, I think it was good, nice bread, tea, herbs, coffee, jam, butter, fruits with yoghurt, and I would suggest that they buy better ham.
The most positive aspects: food, cleaning, spacious rooms, new furniture and nice decoration.
Needs to be improved: wifi quality, change towels, dealing with insects and change ham :D

Quechua Hotel is located about 5-10 mins walk from the main shopping street of San Pedro de Atacama and about 5 mins walk from the Immigration centre if you are get off your bus there. The area it is located in is safe and well lit at night and it is also very quiet with no traffic or neighbour noise.

We were originally staying at Hostal Elim for three nights (please see my review for Hostal Elim) but they were full and we couldn't extend. So we moved to Hotel Quechua for the remaining three nights of our stay in San Pedro. We were a little hesitant to book Quechua Hotel because there were hardly any reviews on Tripadvisor so we asked to have a look around before we booked. The cost of a matrimonial double was $40,000 peso per night.

Pros: the hotel is brand spanking new (which explains the lack of reviews on Tripadvisor). The room was huge (room 3) and easily twice the size of the room at Hostal Elim. There was a king sized bed with a really comfortable mattress and the linen was also new and comfortable. In the room there was also a single bed and you could easily fit three people if you had a family. The bathroom was large and well appointed with modern decor and the shower was awesome - hot and powerful. There was also a proper shower screen as opposed to a shower curtain. The room had a gas heater (although we never used it) two luggage tables and another table and chair. Out the back hammocks were set up as well as a washing line. As far as we could tell there were only about six rooms at Hotel Quechua so it is not a large place. Breakfast was included as was wifi - the wifi worked well from our room. The staff were friendly although most didn't speak any English (there was a man who did speak some English though) and housekeeping were great.

Cons: it is brand new so they are still installing bits and pieces and finalising the place. While this didn't affect our stay the reception and breakfast/ dining room seemed under furnished and a bit haphazardly set up. It seems they have plans for the place because we saw tradesmen while we were there. It was also very quiet, so while it is good for couples but not great if you are planning to meet other people. The breakfast was pretty average and simple (bread, tea, coffee, ham and cheese).

Overall this is fantastic place to stay and great value, especially given the cost of San Pedro accommodation. We were really happy we took the 'risk' of staying at a place with hardly any reviews and we would stay again. Value for money score 8/10

Room Tip: Ask for room 3 - it's huge !

We stayed here for 3 nights this week. The hotel is new, super clean, with spacious rooms. It is located a short walk off the center and has a nice garden with hammocks and palm trees, ensuring quiet and relaxing ambiance for good night sleep.
