We indulged and stayed at Tierra Atacama for 5 nights/6 days and it was well worth it!! From the moment you get picked up at the airport, you know you are in good hands. In the van from the airport, the driver immediately offered cold bottles of water. The staff at Tierra Atacama know service and are very professional but most importantly, very friendly. It's not a stuffy resort in any sense even though the resort just excudes an air of luxury (which I attribute to beautiful but tasteful architectural design that really takes into account the local surroundings). We had a room looking out into the dessert and the main volcano. Max sat down with us when we arrived to discuss excursions and everything was planned perfectly. And when we mentioned we wanted to do some hiking and horseback riding, no problem at all, he arranged the schedule to meet our requests. Yes, the rooms are beautifullly designed and furnished, the food is delicious and the pools/hot tubs are the perfect ending to a day out in the desert but it's really the staff that make this place. Really warm, outgoing people who love being there too so it was really wonderful to talk to them. I had one night where I had an upset stomach and I asked if it was possible to get some homemade sopa de pollo (chicken soup) and one of the waitstaff asked for me and came back saying the kitchen could prepare it for dinner that night. Lo and behold, I sat down to dinner and had a warm, comforting bowl of chicken soup that was probably one of the best I've had. The excursion staff (Yasu, Danilo, Nora and Miguel and others) are knowledgeable, friendly and share a lot about the places you're seeing and visiting. I can't say enough about Tierra Atacama and highly recommend it for anybody: families, couples, friends (saw a large group of older ladies enjoying the spa and excellent food). I can't even report anything I'd change. And at the end of your stay if you're struggling on how to tip all of the wonderful staff, they even have that covered. You can ask for an envelope at the reception that has a little card and you can include cash or charge it to your credit card and allows you the ability to either designate tip amounts to specific members of staff or percentages to the groups (drivers, excursion leaders, waitstaff, housekeeping, etc). A very well-run, organized operation that really puts its guests first but makes it effortless and warm.

We travelled here with our 3 young children aged, 9, 6 and 3 years old as well as my parents. The accommodation was beautiful and our family room was huge. Upstairs was the double room and ensuite, downstairs there were 2 bedrooms and 2 more bathrooms, we couldn't believe it. My parents had their own double room which was awesome as well. The all inclusive package is a fantastic. On arrival we sat down with Pamela who discussed what options for tours would be good for us considering the ages of our children. She really knew what she was talking about and we followed all our her recommendations for which tours to do and in what order. Our girls loved horse back riding, the moon valley and their favourite rolling and running down giant sand dunes. My parents were also blown away by the service and set up of the hotel. All of the meals were lovely, with different choices each night and if you came into the bar area for a drink the staff would also offer you a lovely cheese plate or the like to go with it. The night we arrived it was my mums birthday and I had asked if we might be able to have a cake in lieu of dessert - they organised it and had all the staff sing happy birthday to her. We also walked into San Pedro one day which was quite an easy manageable walk for all but our 3 yr old. The heated indoor pool and spa were also a great addition and popular with our children. I cannot praise this place enough, it was one of the best holidays I have been on and the staff were just so wonderful and helpful, I couldn't fault it.

Room Tip: The 2 family rooms are awesome.

Stayed there 6 nights, room #24. I was simply perfect. The location is a bit away from the city of San Pedro (about 15mn walking) but you wouldn't think of going there as everything is perfect at the hotel. Anyway, worth a visit, the local museum is interesting too.
Room: wondefull view, simple but comfy with a great outdoor shower (so good to have a shower outside in this environment!)
Views: amazing views on the moutains from whatever place in the hotel. And also, enjoy the clearest sky, full of stars, at night.
Noise: inexistent - quiet, no tv in the room, no cellular ringing, perfect
Food: Absolutely delicious
Excursions: when you arrive there, Max, the excursion "boss" talks with you and plan your excursions during your stay. After this, no need to take care of anything. Just arrive on time and enjoy (for me the best ones were the "altiplano lakes" and the "geysers")
As it's all included, you can enjoy a nice coktail whenever you want.
As it's not a big structure, it creates a warm, cosy atmosphere.
I could have stayed there a all month.
The service is nice, all the waiters are really nice to you.
The only negative point is the beautifull outdoor swimming pool wich is ambient temperature...as it was pretty cold at night, couldn't enjoy the pool that much!
Would definitely recomend this place.

The stay began with airport pick-up and a drive through a sparse and spare desert setting until we reached a green oasis, which led to the walls of Tierra de Atacama. Once inside, we were greeted in an airy great room with views of the Andes, a delicious cherimoya smoothie, and a guide who described the many excursions available in this geographically and ecologically diverse area. The great room is also where guests eat their meals (all inclusive), which included a breakfast buffet and three course lunch and dinner menus with sufficient options. The compound is minimal, using local materials (mud, straw, stone) and lots of windows to showcase the landscape and sky, which lights up with stars at night (7,000+ ft elevation makes you that much closer to the stars). It includes spacious outdoor areas with fire pits, a small pool with lounge chairs, and a spa with an indoor pool, steam room, and space for yoga. The staff was very friendly and helpful without getting in the way. The room, decorated with simple local textures and minimal and refined, had a warmth and effortless ease, an outdoor and indoor shower, and an outdoor space leading straight out into lavender fields. Bicycles were available to go into San Pedro de Atacama, where the shopping is adequate but enjoyable (found colorful $40 Bolivian blankets that sell in NYC's Nolita for $325).
The excursions were terrific and I was part of a small group of two couples and another solo traveler -- and we had a great time experiencing Atacama together doing everything from an early morning visit to geysers at 14k ft and an 18km bike ride to swim in salt lakes. Four days felt too short, and by the end I was quite reluctant to leave.

As a solo young traveller, I am an uncommon guest here! Tierra Atacama is not just a hotel, but an experience. Your itineary is planned and customised for you, however mild or adventurous as you like. In your down time you can relax surrounded by elegant design and decor, and stunning views. The guides are genuinely friendly people, passionate, professional and knowledgable. They went above and beyond to make my stay special and comfortable. The bed time Atacama mythology story on your pillow is a lovely touch. This hotel is worth the price. The downsies were I could not make international calls from my room, the internet and wifi is poor, and there is a lack of vegetarian main options.
