You could spend hours here. It's totally fascinating, particularly if you are a history, art and/or culture buff. Highly recommended!

“Very cool that a smaller town like Santa Cruz has such a great museum”
Reviewed 3 October 2013

This museum is unbelievably packed with artifacts, art, relics, historical items, and the like. It is very well organized and there is an audio recording in English (although the exhibit descriptions themselves are exclusively in Spanish). Definitely worth a couple of hours.

“A hidden museum gem with a large variety of collections of objects”
Reviewed 14 August 2013

The outside of this museum is deceptively unimpressive. Inside there is a large variety of collections of objects ranging from locomotive and farming equipment to pre-historic finds. I particular liked the collections on the various indigenous populations in south/central America, the prehistoric finds (with the couple buried together and the prehistoric shark), objects of the church, and the jewels of the Andes. Two sections that appeal strongly to Chilean visitors are the rescue of the miners and the overview of the history of Chile. Kids probably will be more attracted by the locomotives and the caballero culture (horses and spurs etc..). The museum focuses on objects, not art. Even a cursory visit takes 3 hours. The museum shop has high quality items but is much more expensive than nearby shops.

“Do not Miss if in Santa Cruz”
Reviewed 7 August 2013

From the outside this place looks to disappoint, but don't be fooled this place is larger and has more exhibits then you would ever guess from the outside.
Plan to spend hours, it cover everything from dinosaurs to all indigenous Indian tribes up to agricultural revolution and includes actual declaration of Independence for Chile.
