This is a truly delightful museum. We visited before the large earthquake in 2010 which destroyed much of Santa Cruz but were able to revisit the rebuilt museum in November 2013. It really is a special, easy to find one's way around, museum. We loved the fossils (there is even fossilised dinosaur poo!) and the history of Chile. A welcome addition this time is the exhibition of the story and rescue of the 33 miners which made the whole world feel good. If you are in the Colchuaga Valley on a wine tour, please find time to visit this delightful museum.

A really great collection detailing South American history. We made the mistake of going after a long wine lunch and were too sleepy to truly enjoy each of the rooms this museum has to offer. The ticket is valid for 24 hours so you can go back the following day if necessary. Dedicate a good chunk of time here when you are fresh and rested! It´s really worth it.

Easily the most impressive collection - public or private - representing pre columbian, conquest, revolution, and modern day Chilean history, including the 33 miners who survived underground for more than 70 days. The private owner of the collection has assembled an impressive retrospective of this region, and some of the artifacts there challenge current beliefs of what existed in the New World prior to the arrival of the Europeans. A must see!

You could spend hours here. It's totally fascinating, particularly if you are a history, art and/or culture buff. Highly recommended!

This museum is unbelievably packed with artifacts, art, relics, historical items, and the like. It is very well organized and there is an audio recording in English (although the exhibit descriptions themselves are exclusively in Spanish). Definitely worth a couple of hours.
