This building is temple in the middle of the sand dunes, it was very tranquil to sit by the pool and gaze up into the mammoth sand dunes.

Not much feeling to this place. Best thing about it is the surrounding sand dunes.

Simply wonderful nature of this tranquil oasis in Ming Sha Shun desert on Chinese Silk Road. The view of sand mountain to reflect different shodow of lights are stunningly beautiful. A must on Chinese Silk Road along Mogao Grotto near Dunhuang in Gansu province

I was quite reluctant to g to Crescent Moon Pool due to its expensive entrance fee $120!! But...How could we skip it when we are already at Dunhuang!! We took bus to get there ($1); and paid extra $5 (or $10? Can't remember exactly) for the shuttle bus to get over to the Pool. It wasn't easy to climb up, I thought it's more difficult than 4-5 hours hiking!!! But the view's totally worth it. I would recommend watch weather forecast before visiting there because if you go in bad weather conditions, you will not able to see things clearly!

The amazing part of this part of Gobi Desert is how close it is located to the city of Dunhuang, it is only 5 km away. Crescent Moon Pool is a small oasis of spring water on the desert. It is tied up with the Sand dunes here known as Ming Sha Shan with one single entrance ticket. You can walk or pay for transfer to get to the pool from the entrance. The admission is quite costly, about RMB120 per person, exclude camel rides and some activitie which require more fees. So choose a time when it is not too hot, either morning or evening, and spend time to enjoy all the activities: walking on the fine sands, hike up the dunes, slide down the mountain, ride the camels or take an easy walk / drive to nearby Crescent Moon Pool.
