Didn't think too much of this hotel, the staff were rude, they seemed to speak some english when we arrived but when we were checking out they seemed to speak no english, made us wait a long time and tried to tell us they had no luggage room even though we were pointing to it. The room did have a computer in it which was nice, as it gave us something to do at night. Jiayuguan is not much of a place and not somewhere you would want to hang around more than one day, the fort and wall was great but thats it. There seemed to be no where to eat and drink except in a hotel and the town definatley had the Pyongyang look about it with all identical houses lined up and no character at all. Definately felt like no westerner had been there before, as the whole town was stopping to take a look at us and young people asked for our photos and giggled Hello! The market in the town was not appetising at all, might have had something to do with the putrid smell around all the stalls.
It was a bit of pot luck with this hotel as there was not too many reviews in English for hotels in Jiayuguan, although this hotel is close to the station its a bit of a hike into the main area but for one night stay it is more than sufficient.
