The location of this lovely resort hotel is perfect - it stretches along the river and provides sitting areas in the gorgeous garden to watch the river rafters and bird life. The service was inconsistent and varied from person to person. No one had trained the young woman who ran the bar in the afternoon - we had to teach her how to make our drinks. Language skills among the staff also varied a lot. The breakfast food was OK, but we supplemented it with our own fruits bought in the local market: huge mangoes, passion fruit and persimmons. The buffet just had the usual melon and bananas. The one Chinese meal we had in the evening was quite good.

I opened my window at night to get fresh air as the A/C didn't seem very cool. The bed was fine. It was a bit odd to have the bath tub right in the room instead of in a bathroom, but the shower was excellent. Amenities were good and there was an emphasis on recycling and saving water.

The gardens are beautifully landscaped and the hotel grows many of its own vegetables in a garden plot next to the hotel.

Room Tip: When we checked in, we were assigned rooms in Building 9, which is the last building on one end of t...

This is a good looking hotel in a great location. I enjoyed sitting on the side of the yulong river and watching the rafters go by.. However, a few things need work:

- the food is awful. We had 2 breakfasts and 2 lunches, and nothing was much beyond edible. This is a Chinese hotel, and they couldn't even get rice right.

- the bed was hard as a rock. I actually checked to see if it was a box spring..

- service was below poor. I felt like we were more a burden.

Super location, trained and polite staff, chic, classy, and the view is just surreal. The rooms are neat, good taste.
Ideal for family, couples, Romantic. The management is really making a difference. Near by downtown for those who wants some noise, but somehow still hidden, for those who wants a quiet and peaceful place for relaxation. Actually, it is so modern, but it is built to get along with the breathtaking views.

What a beautiful peaceful resort. The food in the Chinese restaurant was fantastic. The breakfast buffet full of many different cultures. The rooms are very spacious with beautiful bathrooms. It was hot when we were there in October so the cool towels on arrival where greatly appreciated. The air conditioning in the room struggled a little through the day but kicked in beautifully in the evening. We would recommend this resort to anyone. We wished we had have stayed longer.

Room Tip: Ask for a room over looking the river

Came here after four days in Beijing. The contrast between huge, busy city and peaceful beautiful countryside relaxed us immediately. The hotel and it's rooms are lovely. The balconies overlooking the river and the karsts would be enough to keep me happy. I found service generally very reasonable except for one night, of three, when there was a big dinner in the conference area. We seemed to be forgotten and our food was quite bland. Since this was our third night we knew they usually did fine. We took all of our dinners in the Asian restaurant. Breakfasts were good with both Western and Asian dishes. If you go, make sure you take the raft trip. It was a highlight.

I came to Yangshuo Resort - which brands itself as a top luxury resort - in mid October, which was clearly late in the season: the large place (over 230 rooms) was more or less empty., two of the four restaurants were closed (and one could not sit outside in the other two, as it was "too cold", but still at least 23 degrees centigrade at 8 pm ...), the fitness room (a joke for a hotel of this size, barely 30 m2 with just 4 machines, but one knows that Chinese tourists rarely use these facilities) was pitch dark, the sauna closed, the pool without light (though theoretically it is open until 11 pm) ... and so on. Bar food was very low quality. The rooms are ok, though, even if they only have Chinese TV. Overall clearly a place for somewhat upmarket Chinese tour groups - no way to compare this to one of the really nice luxury hotels in Beijing or Shanghai (which can come at roughly the same price).

Room Tip: Make sure you stay in a room facing the river and as far away as possible from the road which runs b...

This is a very good hotel, which could be great.

The location of the hotel is great - right by the Yulong river with great views of the mountains. The rooms are lovely with nice bathrooms and balconies overlooking the garden and the river. The food is nice too (although I now know I don't personally like double-boiled chicken soup!) and there is a choice of Western and Chinese restaurants. The pool is clean with a pool bar and there is a gym (which we didn't use) and even karaoke rooms. The receptions and communal areas have been beautifully designed.

The facilities don't need anything more - the service just needs to be better. With the exception of one very helpful lady in the restaurant (I think she was called Jennie..?) who was obviously that evening's designated English speaker, the staff were all a bit lackadaisical and disinterested - there was a lot of texting and checking of mobile phones going on, which was a bit distracting, and one girl in the Western restaurant sighed and looked at her watch when we went in for dinner at 8.30pm..!

That said, I'm surprised this hotel doesn't rank better on Tripadvisor. If you want to stay in a luxury hotel in Yangshuo, this is definitely the place to go. It is beautiful and you'll have a great time cruising along the Yulong and Li rivers - just don't expect five star staff.
