“Great place to be”
Reviewed 29 May 2012

We are back from 3 weeks in China during which we spent one week around Yangshuo. We stayed in Tea Cozy.
It is very close to Yulong river, walking distance to one of bamboo rafting place.
Rooms - very nice, clean, nice furniture. No noise in night. We had balcony to the street with nice view to the hills.
Staff - very friendly, lot of fun with them.
Food - there is kitchen in the hostel with some dishes, do not expect restaurant, but all was tasty. And of course, cold beers.
Services - I booked this hostel in advance including picking up at Guilin airport. All perfect. We borrowed hostel bicycles, worth to do it. Curry (manager of the hostel) has travel agency office in Yangshuo, just at the edge of West street, so it is possible to do cycling tour, stop in Yangshuo for a dinner or walk or shopping, leaving bicycles in their office and take them again later or leave them and use taxi back to the hostel. It takes about 15 - 20 minutes cycling from Yangshuo to the hostel. If you plan evening return from Yangshuo, take some light, because there are no street lights on the way. Just fireflies in ricefields. Curry managed also other activities - bamboo rafting, bird fishing and after all we did 3 days journey with him as a guide to Dragon backbone rice fields and rain bridges. He also managed another hotel in Guilin night before our departure with agency discount. The journey was real fun, we could hardly see all places without him, also we could taste local food. As a bonus we had sichuan hot pot (really HOT) with him - well brain and spinal cord were not our best.
Result: highly recommended.
Thanks Curry.

Dear friend, We are all very happy you enjoyed your stay with us. Thank you for your great photos, I still remember that you worked so hard on taking those photos, and we have used some of the pics from you for our hotel advertisements and website. Do you remember that we got up at 3:30am for sunrise photo shooting at the top of Xianggong mountain? I 'm sorry i have made you quite a long day. Next time I would like to show you at another spot for sunset with cormorant fish. I 'm sure you would love those photos.

Looking forward to seeing you one day.
Best Regards,
Curry

We loved every moment of our stay, each room individually decorated with antiques and special care taken to ensure you have a the best tickets for the light show. The owners are; kind, helpful, considerate-we know they will do well and you will enjoy your stay.
What more can we say-fantastic.

Room Tip: They are all lovely and each one individual and special.

We originally were set to stay in town on a place near West St. We were quite happy with our hotel until 6pm when ever surrounding cafe, bar and restaurant started competing to see who could blast the worst house music.

The next morning we packed our bags and left for Tea Cozy. Great rooms and excellent accommodating staff. Loved the home style cooking (thanks Richard!) especially the crispy beef and the fresh eggplant and sitting by the fireplace. It was a real homestyle environment. Amazing views and you can get back and forth to town easily (either free transfer by hotel or a taxi for 30 RMB).

Oh yeah and a rooftop bar!!!

Room Tip: Check out the rooftop bar!!!!

We have just spent 5 nights with Richard, Curry and Jessica at their hotel and what a fabulous time we had. The hotel itself is a beautiful refurbished 5 floor chinese building with 3 rooms on each floor so quite small but extremely friendly. Each room has a different style, ours was full of antique chinese furniture and the bed was amazingly comfortable with a balcony with a direct view of the mountains and paddy fields. The food is all home cooked by the hosts and they also own a cooking school in Yangshou so you can imagine the calibre of the food - it was excellent. Richard even promised to cook snails for my son as he had never tried them which he went to buy especially for him. There is a cute restaurant on the top floor with beautiful views or you can eat outside or in the cozy room inside where we had a fire going during our stay. Richard, Curry and Jessica went out of their way to make sure we had a great time and that activities we chose to do were well organised and easy. The hotel itself is out of Yangshou which is too busy now but within 20 minutes cycling if you wish to go there (Or you can get a lift from the hotel). I can't stress enough how much I liked the owners of this hotel, they are really genuine, warm and helpful people and I would encourage anybody who wants to experience some genuine Chinese hospitality to stay here. We will definitely be returning and as much as I want to keep this place a secret, these people really do deserve to be successful in their business so I am grudgingly writing to you on trip advisor! Book the Tea Cozy, it is fabulous.

Richard, the owner of the Yangshuo Tea Cozy has been our friend for a long time. He's an amazing guy who understands what foreigners in China want. His taste is exquisite and he has turned his brand new hotel into a cozy, most stylish place with a lot of great "western" comforts (like comfortable mattresses). We haven't stayed there yet - as it is brand new - but our friends from Yangshuo have been there to check it out and sent us photographs and it's simply gorgeous.

Richard is very knowledgeable and knows to answer (in good English) many questions a traveller in China could have. He also knows many hidden places in the area of Yangshuo and is honest and sincere.

The location of the Yangshuo Tea Cozy is amazing (We used to live in the area of Yangshuo). Amidst Karst mountains, streams and rice paddies, near the beautiful Yulong river, a peaceful stay and good sleep is nearly guaranteed.
