The Miao is an ethnic group recognized by the government of China as one of the 55 official minority groups.
Most Miao reside in hills or on mountains, such as
Wuling Mountain by the Qianxiang River
Miao Mountain , Qiandongnan
Yueliang Mountain , Qiandongnan
Greater and Lesser Ma Mountain , Qiannan
Greater Miao Mountain , Guangxi
This place is a must visit if one visit Guiyang .

My wife and I had thoroughly enjoyed our visit to just one of many Miao Villages in the KaiLi China area. The specific village that we had visited is the Qingman Miao Village near the city of Guiyang. Some of the Miao village people gave us the traditional Miao welcome - rice wine before entering the village, Great!

We had the opportunity to have lunch in one of the Miao villager's home that was simply delicious! The village itself is surrounded by farm area where the residents grow fresh vegetables for themselves and to market. The surrounding area is very picturesque with the green hills, farms, and buildings. Very nice area to visit.

This listing is incorrect. There is a number of different Miao minority villages, of which I visited 2. The Quingman Miao village, moderately interesting is at the location indicated on the map. There is a welcome ceremony with local wine drinking out of a horn and a family showing local weaving. The Shiqiao Miao village, very interesting, in a completely different location is home to traditional paper making and in my opinion more authentic. Further along the path, there is a farming village which was amazing. (see pictures)

THE MINORITY VILLAGES HAVE ALL BUT DISAPPEARED!! Don't be overly disappointed, but these villages are now relatively modern with just remnants of what was. We enjoyed visiting several, but really we were too late to get the "true" experience...

If you want to see how real Miao culture is, go to Langde Village. You can take a bus from train station to the city's bus station center. Then take a bus which Langde is the last stop (10 rmb). There you can find lots of homestays. I recommend A-Mei's. It's in the right side of the bus stop and takes 200 meters of walking. The price of accomodation is normally 30 rmb per night. You have to pay extra 30 rmb for dinner and breakfast combined. Sometimes from 9-11 am, there will be a traditional dancing performance which takes 20 rmb to see.
