“See the Artists At Work”

Jingdezhen Official Kiln Museum

If you are interested in handmade ceramics, this is definitely a must go to place. You will see the artists that have been doing this for 50+ years at work. Some of the artists are hand throwing the ceramic pieces and some are painting the pieces. You can view the ancient kilns and take pictures. You can also purchase the pieces either at the individual booths or in the gift shop. These items are more expensive since they are individually made, but it makes them more special. You can bargain here.

The museum is on the site where the official, ie imperial kiln, used to be during Ming-Qing dynasties, Zhushan, or Pearl Hill. Thus a lot of shards and other finds have been excavated, and the museum exhibits many fantastic reconstructed pieces. However, if you want to know more about the production itself, there are better places to go (see my other reviews).

Interesting but not as good as the ceramic museum and expo. Some good examples of porcelain from the Qing and Ming Dynasties especially the iconic blue and white porcelain.
Can see the same plus a lot more at the other museum.

As the China's "Porcelain Capital", Jingdezhen is the one of Four Great Towns in China. For me, the most attractive stuff is the ancient ceramics industry. And the spots to learn something about porcelain is Ceramic History and Culture Zone, Gaoling-Yaoli Scenic Area, Fuliang Ancient Government Office, Deyu Ecological Garden, China Porcelain Garden, and Jingdezhen Official Kiln Museum
