Owner description: Four young girls were killed when a Ku Klux Klan bomb exploded in this church in 1963. The girls are remembered with a shrine in the crypt where they died, and a vibrant stained glass window donated in sympathy by the people of Wales adorns the historic church.

Very welcoming church and staff with beautiful facilities. Be sure and tour the memorial in the basement. Be respectful with cameras.

“Historic”
Reviewed 8 September 2013

What a great way to end the tour at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, with the view of 16th Street Baptist Church. Very emotional.

“Paying homage to the four little girls”
Reviewed 4 September 2013

It's across the street from the Civil Rights Institute and just good to see where those girls sacrificed their lives.

“Good to see and for the kids to see”
Reviewed 25 August 2013

It was good to show our kids historical sites that they heard about and read about. The kids couldn't believe the artifacts that they were seeing.

“A lot of history on those steps.”
Reviewed 22 August 2013

A must just to visit, know the history that occurred here. You are allowed to see the church inside, but it is closed on Mondays.
