“Pleasant stay”

This is a nice, modern hotel in downtown birmingham in a safe neighborhood. The room was roomy with a sitting area and fridge. The pool was nice but there was no hot tub. Continental breakfast was nice and you could order other things and pay for them. There is a snack bar where you could purchase snacks such as donuts, fruit sandwiches, etc. The strange thing was that if you were staying at the hotel you could get fruit for free but had to pay for coffee.

I guess I did not know that Hyatt place is a more business, no-frills type of the hotel, so I was a bit disappointed. The hotel is VERY clean and the staff so far seem to be nice. The room is actually big and everything is new, but the inconvenience for me is that the TV is in the middle of the room and the bed is off to the side. To watch TV you need to sit at a couch in the room, you can not see it from your bed.
The other negative for me is that the address of the hotel sends you to a TOTALLY different part of town when you plug it in your GPS. They hotel staff said this is a problem with google directions too. Apparently this has been going on since the hotel opened. This is a big inconvenience if you are from out of town and need to drive a lot around.
The positives are: the hotel is new, clean, quiet, internet and parking are free.

I live in Birmingham but was needing a hotel downtown for one night. I found a great deal at this new Hyatt Place. It reminds me of a contemporary Courtyard. We loved having the flat screen HDTV's and modular couches. The room was large and had plenty of space for a family of four to stay several days comfortably. There is a mini-fridge and single serve coffee/tea maker and hair dryer in all rooms. They offer a complimentary continental breakfast that had fruits, cereals, breads, juices, coffee and good selection of hot teas. You could order hot food for additional fees that were reasonably priced. There is also a 24 room service limited menu. The hotel has an indoor pool and small exercise room which had 4 cardio machines and a rack weight up to 30. Since this is in the middle of downtown, there is a parking fee of $8 a night (unlimited in and out)- but it is in a secure parking garage right next to the hotel.

Overall it is a great budget-friendly hotel, convenient location and friendly staff! Solid choice that shouldn't disappoint

This property was opened in June, '09 so everything seems pretty new. The room and bed were very good, including a coffee maker and a refrigerator. Check-in went smoothly. The included Continental breakfast was adequate. A huge factor in our happiness was the location of the hotel--a mere five minutes away from Five Points, a central concentration of restaurants and entertainment. We dined at the Highlands Bar & Grill, a well-known restaurant headed by a famous chef--I highly recommend it if you're not on a tight budget. Parking was a minor issue. There is on-street metered parking. Or you can opt to park in the adjoining structure for $8/night. As our night was on a weekend, the meters did not run. And we were able to find parking both times we looked for it. However, the $8 was still added to our bill at checkout. When I pointed out the error, it was immediately taken off without any problem. But I suggest you make sure you aren't charged if you don't use the ramp. In all, I will look for Hyatt Place Hotels when I travel. While not luxurious, it certainly meets our travel needs for a comfortable nights rest.

I am really puzzled by the other reviews that say how great this place is.
It's fine, but not what I would consider a real hotel. More like a hilton garden inn.
No real restuarant, no real bar (yes, they have them, but they are very limited and nobody would walk in off the st. to go to either one), Breakfast is self-serve deal with cereal, bagels, and toast. You can get eggs to order, but not sure how anything is getting cooked - it's self-service - kind of cafeteria style.
Hotel in a converted car dealership - yes the rooms are big with big TVs but furnishings seem really cheap, color choices are awful.
Very dissapointed given other revies

Nice hotel, super clean, pretty good breakfast, parking extra 8 dollars a day.
There is nothing to do with in 10 blocks of this hotel.
We booked air , car and hotel thru Hyatt.com,
The hotel tried charging us twice saying they couldn't find our package we paid for online(which was thru Hyatt.com???).
We let the front desk know we had paid , and thought they would have looked into it, but they never did.
So on check out day the gave us a bill for tax and for our room stay.
I called down to the desk, they still couldnt find our package ,I had to call Hyatt.com myself , then they called Hyatt Place.
Eventually, we just paid for parking, but really not that up to speed on customer service.

I am still telling my employer, and my co-workers about my experience...The staff was super,The room was so clean &comfortable,Parking was so convienant, and the hotel security was so proffesional. He would walk me out to my car and me being a female in a city that I knew nothing about...That really meant alot!!!!
