“Good New Menu Item - Carolina BBQ Sandwich”
Reviewed 1 March 2014

Great food and service at the Greystone location. OK, it ain't Lexington, NC 'Que, but the toasted bun, moist pulled pork, vinegar and pepper "sauce," pickles, and just enough slaw to top it off the toasted bun made me feel like I was home in eastern NC. The fresh cut fries were smokin' hot from the fryer and not ruined by added seasonings.

My only ding for the Jim 'N Nick's chain is their poor and shrinking selection of draft beers and ales. Their dropping of Red Brick Ale and Avondale craft brands is dumb. The local Good People IPA is only OK . . . bad if you're not an IPA fan.

“Smellin Mighty Fine Servings Aint Same”
Reviewed 23 January 2014

Being stuck on 280 in rush hour traffic while trying to keep a New Year's resolution to eat healthier is futile because this BBQ Joint is smelling up the place! My daughter cut her teeth at Jim and Nicks...really she would sit in the high chair and gum on a rib bone salivating everywhere in public from the time she was 6-8 months old until she could really chomp down a few short years later....that was 1999. What a difference a few years makes....still smells mighty fine; is always very crowded on Friday and Saturday night and it seems ownership/management takes their success for granted...or attributes it to their bar business. Portion sizes and food quality has declined seriously over the years. Location is their salvation because the 280 Jim and Nicks is smellin mighty fine....but can't hold a candle to the Birmingham delicacy known as Rib It Up.

“Good but expensive”
Reviewed 22 January 2014 via mobile

Great food but a little high. We have been eating here since they opened and the food is good but the portion s have gotten smaller and the prices higher. We used to eat here 8 times a month but have had to cut down to 3.

“Went back the next day”
Reviewed 19 November 2013

While visiting Birmingham for the first time, we visited this restaurant we'd spotted on the way to our hotel. It was an excellent choice.

Our waitress, Stephanie, was knowledgeable and friendly. We went the first time on a Saturday night and it wasn't too crowded. I had smoked ham and tried creamed collards for the first time. i liked them, and the helping was just right because I could not have eaten a large portion of them. The ham was tender and moist and I took some back to the hotel for breakfast the next morning.

The next afternoon we went back for lunch. it was very crowded but worth the wait. Stephanie stopped by our table and spoke to us. The night before she had recommended the "Loaded Mac" so that's what I ordered this time. It was delish - mac-n-cheese topped with roasted pork.

One thing that drew us back was the freshness. Stephanie had explained how their food was made fresh every day and there were no large coolers to hold any pre-made items.

Pluses: They carry local craft beers; they sell their BBQ sauce and cheese cornbread mix ; they also sell T-Shirts.

Interesting: One of the appetizers is deviled eggs.

Next time: I'd like to try the BUTTERBEAN & SMOKED MUSHROOM HUMMUS which is a southern take on traditional hummus, served with cornbread and celery.

“Great Southern BBQ - what else do you need?”
Reviewed 19 October 2013 credit card Amex Cardmember Review

Jim N Nicks serves some of the best southern BBQ in the 'ham. I especially like their beef brisket and potato salad. The location on Hwy 280 is clean, efficient and has a great atmosphere.
