We had heard rave reviews prior to visiting Hot & Hot. It was very crowded when we arrived so we were thankful for the valet parking. We had reservations and were seated immediately. Our server was very professional although extremely busy. As I recall, we enjoyed a couple of very good bottles of wine with fresh sushi. The dinner menu had a unique variety - Among the things we ordered were rabbit, duck prepared three ways, and marinated shrimp with tomato salad. The flavors and presentation were fresh & sophisticated. We enjoyed ourselves and our dinner although we felt it may be a bit over-rated and over-priced.

Hot & Hot is known as one of the premier restaurants in Birmingham, AL with Chef Chris Hayes at the helm. The menu is unique, locally sourced, expertly prepared, and skillfully presented. The beverage menu includes hand-crafted cocktails that are similarly locally sourced. My only complaint (and one that I have with many restaurants these days) was the volume of the restaurant. I understand the unique in the kitchen feel that many establishments have tried to bring to the fine dining experience, but if you can't hear the people at your table have a conversation, then that is a problem. Overall, this is an excellent restaurants that is a superb choice for any very special occasion.

The food is very good, but the portions are very small. The tomato stack was very good and sufficient. I really enjoyed the trio of butter. The chicken sausage ravioli was good, but was a very small portion.

I was trying to find an email address for the management but couldn't. To say we were disappointed by the food that was served to us today, means to say nothing. A few tomatoes that was sparingly circled around the pool of gelatinous cucumber/dill infused water was nothing but lacked all ingredients including imagination; tasteless local cheese plate was unremarkable and dull and charcuterie plate? You have to really wear prescription glasses to find cured meats on it. I really was trying to enjoy whatever bite I could this evening but plates came with a bread that was brutally charred on a regular gas burner, and that made it so bitter than no one could taste any food. More, it really killed the wine pallet and a good wine turned into a bottle of waste.
Needless to say that the kitchen cannot properly function without the conductor. Mr. Hastings, where were you today and what happened to all your culinary accolades?
If that was not a constructive criticism then what do you call this...dish that came afterwards?

Without doubt one of the top restaurants I have visited in recent years. Dined here with colleagues at the 'chef's table' and each dish was an absolute highlight. From the pre-dinner cocktail to the desert - everything was faultless.

Service staff was not exceptional but good enough, and in all fairness; one comes here for the food. The waiter was friendly and focussed enough, but the rest of the staff came across as hurried and not sincere and this did detract somewhat from the overall experience. Having said that, the food more than made up for this.
