I grew up in San Diego and as a child, I loved going to the old semi-grand theaters during the summer. Sadly, most of them were lost to an adult chain in the 70's.
My first experience at this theater was one of summer series films, "It's a mad, mad, mad,mad world". Three hilarious hours spent in a classic theater -I was blown away! I felt like a kid again. They also showed the old style Bugs Bunny cartoons before the show. There was even a sing along with the organist playing the grand Wurlitzer that rises up onto the stage.
The last time we were there, we saw "White Christmas" just before the Christmas Holiday. Talk about setting the mood! Plus, even though I've seen that movie around a hundred times, it was like seeing it for the first time in that sold out theater.
I love this place and if you have the chance to go -take it! You will love it!
Note: if you plan on attending the Christmas holiday series this year, get there early or you will be sitting in the top balcony -still a wonderful experience but it's always better closer to the screen.
